👩‍🌾Inspiring Youngsters 👩‍🌾 to value the British countryside, food and farming, couldn’t be more paramount in my eyes. So to be approached by Emma, editor and self publisher of The YoungStock Magazine, for an interview, was a real honour! Aimed at children 7-11 years, this monthly subscription magazine is a great 🎁 present idea. Also a Wiltshire farming girl, mother and entrepreneur, I think it is safe to say Emma and I were sorry we didn’t have more time to spend with one another, and a glass or two of wine !🍷. Next time 😜 P.S Did you know I host Educational Visits on our farm? Schools and children’s clubs visit free, and adult groups require a minimum of 15 people with prices starting at £15/person. Do get in touch to discuss your group and their interests, to tailor a visit in 2024

Just wanted to share the news that Emma of The YoungStock has been nominated and selected to be a finalist at this years South West Farmer Awards, in the category Inspirational Woman in Agriculture.

Getting this far is an achievement in itself.

The YoungStock is a passion and labour of love , but most importantly a key piece of reading material for all our future farmers.

Calling all Pumpkin Patch farmers.

Halloween is approaching, and your pumpkin patches must be in full swing of growing. Not long until you invite many ghosts and ghouls onto your farms to pick their favourite pumpkin, ready for carving.

Would you like a free listing of your patch in the magazine?

In return I would love for you to share The YoungStock to your visitors. I can provide flyers and we can even collaborate on here!

If you are interested please PM or email [email protected]

Today is International Dog Day.

Many of us have pet dogs, they are of course 'man's best friend' but they are super important to the rural community, not just as friends but as work colleagues too.

There are many breeds that live and work in the countryside.

🐶 Spaniel breeds which help on pheasant shoots

🐶 Sheepdog breeds that work livestock - cattle and sheep

🐶 Rural rescue dogs

No matter whatever size, shape, breed or colour our canine friends play a significant role in our lives.

Farm Safety

Farms are great places to play, have fun and learn new things. But they can have many hazards, making them a dangerous place to be.
Some hazards are easy to spot, and others may not be. You must try and keep your wits about you.

🚜 When tractors are moving around the yard you must think, can the driver see you? Make sure you wear bright clothing

🏍 Tractors aren't the only moving vehicles, there could be quad bikes, lorries or even sprayers.

🐄 All farm animals can be unpredictable, especially new mums. Just give the livestock plenty of space, and do not be alone with them.

🧱 Objects such as ladders, machinery parts and even bales could fall on us. It is also unsafe to climb ladders or bales, just in case you fall.

💩 Slurry pits contain large quantities of muck and liquid manure. Make sure you STAY AWAY from these, as falling in could cause you serious harm!

❗️ Remember to tell an adult where you are going, wear bright clothes and watch those tractors or livestock!

Stay safe for today, tomorrow, forever!

Today is...

🐝 Don't Step on a Bee Day

Bees are wonderful little insects that provide us with many benefits.

🌼 They are great pollinators. This means they pick up pollen from one plant and deliver it to another plant, allowing fertilisation. Movement of this pollen results in more flowers, fruit and seeds.

🍯 Bee's are very good at making honey. Have you tried some on toast? Or over your cereal?

🌳 Did you know that Bees pollinate trees too? This means more trees are sown, providing habitats for lots of small mammals, birds, and insects.

🦶 Walking bare feet in the grass could mean you stand on one if our precious buzzy friends, and it will hurt too!! So please 'bee' careful.

As someone who has recently had the stress of losing a farm, worrying about housing the cows, alongside personal issues, financial worries and stress I can relate to farming challenges!!

I have been incredibly lucky to keep a handful of supporters on my magazine journey.

But I'm bouncing back 💪

It's OK to not be ok.

This hero is Oliver Harrison OllyBlogs. Along with a team of three other people, he will be driving this CLAAS Combine Harvester from John o' Groats to Land's End, all in aid of Mind and Children with Cancer UK. This epic 875-mile journey will take Olly past our Lockerbie site next week, where he will have a quick refuelling pitstop - stay tuned for more information!

Today is World Book Day.

I know The YoungStock isn't strictly a book, but it does have words and pages and hopefully encourages children to read.

Did you know that only 3 in 10 children read on a daily basis?
(statistics National Literacy Trust)

This is lower compared to previous years, which is why I started the magazine in the first place! To engage children into the joy of a good read, by immersing yourself in words you can learn so much.

Has your son or daughter dressed up as an agricultural influencer for school today? Or maybe a farmer ?

It would be great to see them, so share away 😁

Hi everyone ☺️

I've been a bit quiet lately.

But thank you to some lovely ladies on a farming page The Artful Farmer's Wife I am now back on board.

I wanted to share an event that's coming up which I am involved with. It's for cattle enthusiasts, who wish to learn more about show cattle selection, prepping, grooming and much more.

I will be there ☺️

With a wide range of exhibition halls, conference suites and outdoor facilities, the Showground has the capacity to host events large and small. Situated in 70 acres of the very best St...

It's a feeding and feeling kinda Friday.

When I started this magazine I wanted to share my journey with you all. To share my farming antics - highs and lows.

The last 6 months have been hard! Personal circumstances, plus the postal strike have affected my little project (business)

But...its a New Year! And I'm working very hard to get it sorted 💪

I would really like some willing volunteers to feature so if you want to share your own journey, pictures of you farming or maybe some of the recipes you've tried then let's see them! 😁

Have a fun Friday 🥳

As farmers we all know the health benefits of milk. It is a versatile product that can be made or used to make other yummy products.

So...drink more milk 🥛

HS front line doctor and TV presenter Dr Ranj Singh is encouraging the public to drink more milk to ensure they receive the benefits of vitamin B12.
