Most businesses start off by making the wrong videos for their website.
A lot of them are self-centred videos about the history of the company which generally their customers don't really care about.
You are far better off making a video that explain how you can help your customers. They will be far more inclined to watch these videos to the end.
Why should you appear in your videos?
Showing your face in your videos helps your customer build a relationship with your company.
People like to see who they're buying from and who they will be working with.
That's why we always encourage people to appear in their marketing videos.
Being a jack of all trades was killing our business.
When we first started, every project was different from the last. We did product videos, music videos, promos and even photography.
We were spread too thin, trying to learn lots of services and almost went out of business.
In the beginning we believed that by only focusing on one type of service we would be limiting ourselves.
However we’ve learned that when you specialise in one area more opportunities come your way.
You're able to develop systems and processes to make the workflow more efficient.
Over time you become the best at delivering that service and the only option to hire.
Find your speciality and become an expert at delivering it.
Give away your secrets and share the implementation.
Sharing your process and giving away as much as you can for free creates goodwill with your customers.
People are more likely to choose you if they understand what it is like to work with you.
Even if your process is similar to everyone else in your industry the fact that you are the one who has shared the process will put you 1st in mind when it's time for someone to buy.
It takes practice to be good on camera but don’t let that put you off appearing in your videos.
Some people are natural but for the rest of us, the only way we get better is by doing it over and over again.
There’s quite a few benefits to appearing in your marketing videos.
For example, people want to know who they're buying from.
We are all in the relationship business, not a product business.
Your customers may find you because of a product or service, but they’ll stay for the relationship with your brand.
So showing your face in your marketing videos will help people build that relationship with you.
Try appearing in your next videos and don’t worry if it’s not perfect! You’ll get better the more you do it.
Creating content is always a balance between quality and consistency.
This is something that we have struggled with for years.
We were hyper critical of any of the content we made. To the point where there are hundreds of unfinished blogs, videos and photos sitting on our harddrives that we've never shared.
Obviously there is no point in making hundreds of crap videos. No one will watch any of them and you'll be wasting your time.
But you shouldn't spend all your time trying to make perfect videos either. If this is your approach, you'll never be satisfied. And you'll only release a handful of videos.
A good rule to follow is the 80/20 rule for content creation.
Get it to 80 percent perfect and then post it.
That part usually only takes 20 percent of your time.
But if you agonise over perfecting it. Improving it that extra 20 percent, your going to have to spend way more time on it. And chances are you won't be happy with it anyway.
In that time you could have developed ideas for another 4 videos.
There comes a point when there are diminishing returns and your best moving on to the next video which is bound to be better than your last.
Your hook is the most important part of your video.
If people don’t watch past your hook then they will never see what you offer.
Within 3 seconds someone has decided if they want to stay to watch the full video or not.
You could have the worlds best offer, but if your hook sucks then nobody will see it. A hook will determine the success of your video.
So how do we create a hook that will grab your audiences attention?
The harsh truth is the customer doesn’t care about your business. They only care about what you can do for them.
Most people can smell a salesperson a mile away. Everyone has a keen sense of when we are being sold to and nobody likes it.
So you need to offer value in your hook. Pick up from the conversation already going on in your customers head.
What is the problem they are facing and how are you going to solve it.
The hook should open up a problem or storyline that will make the viewer stay to see it resolved.
If people don't watch your videos you're not spending enough time on your hook!
This tool is wild...
I spent years learning how to mix sound and create environments that made it easy to record clean audio. I even studied it at uni.
A lot goes into it. Setting up boom poles, choosing the right mics. Dampening unwanted reverb with blankets and carpets. Learning how to use a whole load of plugins for post production to make it sound even better. And so many other necessary steps...
Now if I wanted to I could stand next to a motorway and talk into my mic on my phone.
And then run it through Adobe's audio enhancer and get broadcast quality sound in seconds.
It is crazy what it's capable of.
And it's completely free.
There really is no barrier to making high quality content now. It's just about learning what content to make.
Steal like a pro. 👀 Learn what's working for your competition and apply it to your offer.
You can look at your competitors’ sales pages, landing pages, price points, emails, retargeting ads, and more to reverse engineer their sales process. 🏆
Once you know what's working, add your own spin on it and start making sales.

🌟 Be the Guide, Not the Hero! 🌟
🚀 One of our favourite marketing books is Storybrand by Donald Miller. Donald Miller says, "Position your customer as the hero in the story and your company as the guide that leads them to success."
🌌 Picture yourself as Yoda, and your customer as Luke Skywalker. That means you need to guide them on their journey, helping them overcome challenges and achieve their goals.
🦸♂️🦸♀️ Everyone wants to be the hero in their story, and your customers are no exception.
💡If your marketing videos center solely around your company, you risk losing their interest. Instead, step into the guide's shoes, showing that your priority is to help them.
