“I shouldn’t have take this photo it was cruel but I like this photo it’s good”

I’ve always struggled with consistency, and over the last three years, those struggles have revealed themselves repeatedly. As a photographer, I struggle with stylistic and conceptual consistency. As a man, I feel a different way each day.

In my final project I am trying to resolve this, creating 21x21cm prints, many of which Instagram will never see. Some of the prints have stories, some are reactive and some are just nice pictures. The work doesn’t follow many rules, and pulls materials from all over.

By sharing these prints, I want to illustrate a framework that I have found effectively presents, acknowledges and explores the little voices in my head, even the ones I’m ashamed of. Acknowledging our inconsistencies runs parallel to understanding our humanity.

When I was 10, a family friend called up and asked if I wanted to go with them to watch the FA Cup semi-final at Villa park - Watford vs Manchester United. I remember as a kid how excited I was to be watching Cristiano Ronaldo and Wayne Rooney play in real life.

As I got older football remained. I only gained the motivation to study for my 11+ because Mum bribed me with a custom printed United kit - number 7, naturally.

I’ve opened more packets of Match Attax than I’ve had meals.

I have made great friends through football. I’ve filled hundreds (maybe thousands?) of hours kicking a ball around alone or with friends. It really is the beautiful game.

But this year, the gifting of a World Cup to a country without the infrastructure to support it has killed thousands of people. I just can’t support it.

So won’t be watching. I love football, but I would like to say that I love people more, and I am absolutely heartbroken at the thought of families being torn apart for the sake of a game.

I want to stress that I know I am not perfect. I am writing this on an Apple Mac, surrounded by hundreds of products that I haven’t considered the origins of at all. I need to do better, working out what else I can do to ensure that my happy life in the west isn’t built on the bodies of other people.

If you are watching this World Cup, I make no judgement at all. This is just something I have been considering for well over a year. But please spend some time praying, the world needs it.

I hope if I ever came face to face with that 10 year old, I hope he’d understand that some things are bigger than football.

If you’re a student couple who met at Plymouth uni, and are still studying here, let me know! I’d love to shoot you for the work.

Thanks to Lily and Scott for waking up early for the nice light :)

I have always been fascinated by the idea of separation in London. I find it amazing that we can come into contact with thousands of people, and pay none of them any attention. When I saw this shot forming whilst standing on the train home, I was really glad that I had a little camera in my pocket to take it.

The more I look at this shot, the more I fall in love with it. It feels distantly intimate...

I had spent the whole day beforehand taking photos, so it seemed pretty fitting that the best photo I got was once the day was over.

Looking forward to spending some time with Rebekah today.

Anyone who knows Rebekah can testify to how great she is. There aren't a lot of people who will make sure to reach out to you every now and then, just to see how you're doing. But I always feel encouraged when she shoots me a message just to check in.

This is a shot that was taken at Newday 2018. I hadn't done much off camera flash work at this point, but I think it came out looking pretty cool!

Heads up - if we ever go for a walk in the forest together, I will take multiple cameras with me...

This didn't make it into the final video (because there were so many flipping great shots!) But considering recent events RE the virility of wedding dress pockets, I thought it needed to be shared!

Trust me when I say it was a painful process putting this into my theme!

Had to keep this one under wraps for a little while, but check out the video for "Cast Your Cares", from double MOBO award winning artist Guvna B, and the ridiculously talented Kingdom Choir (I had goosebumps for a good percentage of this shoot).

All footage of the Kingdom Choir in the studio was shot by yours truly.

Song Written by Guvna B, Matt Redman, Nick Herbert
Video directed by Kristele Joyeux, Kevin Hudson
Produced by JimmyJames
Mastered by Naweed Ahmed
