Nalanda International University in India is one of the world's most ancient !

In rural Bihar, Nalanda, one of the world's most ancient universities is being rebuilt. It was first established as a centre of learning in the 5th century CE when a large Buddhist monastery stood on site. The new Nalanda International University is set to be completed in 2022 - offering post-graduate courses on a wide variety of subjects.

One of the most beautiful places in the world has to be Angkor in Cambodia. Probably the most famous site to see in Angkor is the temple complex called Angkor Wat. Angkor Wat is located near the town of Siam Reap. Work to build the temples started in the 12th century, and they were originally built for King Suryavarman II. People who visit Angkor Wat cannot believe how beautiful it is. The design is an example of classical Khmer Architecture and has to be seen to be believed.

Coastlines Are Disproportionately Crowded !

The coasts are attractive options to live on for many reasons, from the access they offered as ports going back centuries to the great views they offer today. But according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, while coastlines cover just 20 percent of the United States' land area (excluding Alaska), "coastal zones" are home to more than half of the country's population.

Rainbow eucalyptus trees have candy-colored bark.

The Eucalyptus Deglupta tree grows in Indonesia, Papua New Guinea, and the Philippines. This unique tree has multicolored bark that features bright blue, orange, purple, green, and maroon streaks.

The unusual colors are a side effect of the tree's shedding, according to Missouri Botanical Garden – as strips of bark peel away, the tree's bright green inner bark is revealed. This inner layer slowly matures and turns a range of colors.

Chocolate Hills of Bohol Island in the Philippines.

The Chocolate Hills vary in height from 98 feet to 393 feet. During dry season, the grass turns a distinct brown colour, reminiscent of chocolate. There are more than 1,268 cone-shaped hills covering an area of 31 miles.

Guyana Mount Roraima

Arguably the most glorious of all the South American tepuis, sheer-cut Mount Roraima is a table top mountain that rises like a petrified oblong of chiseled rock, right on the edge of Venezuela, Brazil and Guyana.

Largely unknown, the mountain is actually one of the most ancient geological formations on the planet, with its roots back in the Precambrian period more than two billion years ago.

It lurches vertically from the ground, soaring 400-meters straight up from the grasslands and woods below.

A challenge even for the most experienced hikers and mountain climbers, the top of the plateau here is a treasure box of natural wonders, with uber-rare pitcher plants and algae, reptilians and amphibians inhabiting the summit, untouched and unhindered by the predators in the flats below.

Pailon de Diablo waterfall

At 80 meters high, the Pailon del Diablo is the tallest waterfall in the Ecuadorian Andes. The English name is “Devil’s Cauldron,” and it’s easy to see why. Upon a visit to the waterfall, you’ll be stunned by its sheer height and power, as the water flows at a near-perfect vertical drop before thundering to the rocks at the bottom.

Don’t be fooled by the name, though—the Pailon de Diablo is perfectly safe to visit. In fact, it is a must-see in Ecuador, especially for those who love hikes or waterfall-chasing. The entire journey to the waterfall is a stunning sight to behold, featuring the sparkling Rio Verde, the river which forms the waterfall, and framed by massive green mountains. This is one breathtaking natural site you won’t soon forget.

Uluru (Ayers Rock) in Australia

One of the world’s most renowned natural landmarks is Australia’s Uluru, previously known as Ayers Rock. In the heart of Australia’s outback, this iconic structure has a vast history.

The monoliths unbelievable size and immense cultural significance to local Indigenous people has made it an icon of Australia.

The unmitigated remoteness of this destination has done nothing to curb the enthusiasm of people from around the world to come and visit the rock, watching it stand magnificently above the flat, arid landscape that’s spread out around it in every direction.

Rainbow Mountain in Peru is one of those spots that you will remember for the rest of your life. It looks like something plucked off the surface of Mars, only it’s set at a cloud-smashing 17,060 feet (5,200 meters) above sea level in the depths of the South American Andes.

The most iconic image is of the peak that the locals call Vinicunca, striped in dashes of rust-red, ochre, vermillion, turquoise, and yellow. However, the whole area around Rainbow Mountain is remarkable, unfolding in the shadow of the jagged Andes massif in a patchwork of rustic alpaca farms and barren valleys dotted with lakes and snow plumes.

Halong Bay is a beautiful natural wonder in northern Vietnam near the Chinese border. The Bay is dotted with 1,600 limestone islands and islets and covers an area of over 1,500 sqkm. This extraordinary area was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1994. For many tourists, this place is like something right out of a movie. The fact is that Halong Bay features a wide range of biodiversity, while the surrealistic scenery has indeed featured in endless movies.

Angkor - The Heart and Soul of Cambodia

Angkor, in Cambodia’s northern province of Siem Reap, is one of the most important archaeological sites of Southeast Asia. It extends over approximately 400 square kilometers and consists of scores of temples, hydraulic structures (basins, d***s, reservoirs, canals) as well as communication routes. For several centuries Angkor, was the center of the Khmer Kingdom. With impressive monuments, several different ancient urban plans and large water reservoirs, the site is a unique concentration of features testifying to an exceptional civilization. Temples such as Angkor Wat, the Bayon, Preah Khan and Ta Prohm, exemplars of Khmer architecture, are closely linked to their geographical context as well as being imbued with symbolic significance. The architecture and layout of the successive capitals bear witness to a high level of social order and ranking within the Khmer Empire. Angkor is therefore a major site exemplifying cultural, religious and symbolic values, as well as containing high architectural, archaeological and artistic significance.

Chebika - an oasis that lies at the foot of the Djebel el Negueb !

Of course it’s all a matter of opinion, but arguably the most beautiful places to visit in Tunisia are away from the cities. Chebika which lies at the foot of the mountains of the Djebel el Negueb is a perfect example.

Here an Eden-like oasis of beautiful waterfalls, curious caverns and date palms surviving in rocky clefts is a dramatic sight – and unsurprisingly a popular tourist haunt. It’s also a popular place with film directors as scenes from Star Wars Episode IV and The English Patient were shot in this area.

Probably a mind-blowing fact about Spain right now, but what you thought was just plain, regular ol’ Spain, isn’t as simply defined as that. It’s made up of various Autonomous Communities that have a certain level of self-government. Galicia is Celtic. The Basque Country speaks Basque (which is unlike any European language). Valencia, Catalonia, and the Balearic Islands are Occitan and Catalan. Super interesting 🙃

Pompeii

In 79 AD, Mount Vesuvius erupted with devastating effect. Many small towns and settlements in the region were completely destroyed by the eruption, not least Pompeii. Ironically, being buried under layers of ash that fell from the volcano has led to an incredibly well-preserved snapshot of a Roman city frozen in the midst of a disaster.

The Morskie Oko Lake (Eye of the Sea) in Polish Mountains !

Morskie Oko is the largest lake in the Tatra Mountains, located at an altitude of 1,395 m above sea level. You can reach the Morskie Oko Lake by foot – the trail is about 8 km long (hiking time is 2 hours 25 minutes).

Morskie Oko itself makes a very big impression, also on children – it’s a truly stunning lake. The route to Morskie Oko runs along an asphalt road which is usually walked by hundreds – if not thousands – of tourists and in summer months Morskie Oko is visited by about half a million tourists !

It’s no secret that Mexican citizens make up the largest proportion of the United States’ foreign-born population. But the US citizens, on the other hand, constitute the largest immigrant group in Mexico. According to the 2010 Census, over 750,000 US citizens live in Mexico.

Yes, it means there are more Americans immigrating to Mexico than Mexicans immigrating to the US. Kind of ironic…
