HELLO.

It's been a while since I posted on here but that's going to change VERY SOON.

Trapdoor is finally getting it's own website. Designed and built by the brilliant Scott Coupar (who's also in mad brilliant band VASA, a very talented dude) with artwork by the always majestic Jessica Jumpers - Illustrator.

Site should be live in the next week or so so stay tuned. Here's a nice picture so you know I'm not lying.

An excellent week of hell raising at Trapdoor. The one and only Vennart has been over adding some outrageous Matamp/Orange/Soldano flavoured pain to the mysteriously titled ESB project that only those in the know will be familiar with.

It’s been a pleasure and a joy and this record is going to blow hearts and minds into the 8th circle of hell. Some pictures to mark the occasion.

Lots of fun upgrades going in to the studio right now! Just picked up this gorgeous TL Audio M1 console to bring a bit of analog spice back into the work flow at Trapdoor, very excited to get it integrated into the control room!

Super couple of days up at Trapdoor making a right bloody racket with Vennart. Those Oranges are serious business.

It’s lovely to be slowly getting back into the swing of things at the studio and I’m delighted to say that the diary for the back end of the year is looking much healthier.

TRAPDOOR IS BACK.

From Monday 6th July, Trapdoor Studios is officially back open for sessions and it's been a long time coming.

During the lockdown, I've been working hard to improve many aspects of the studio and have made a few upgrades to make the creative experience even better.

I've expanded the mic locker, introduced some new preamps and have a few more instruments and toys to play with as well as doing some decorating and general maintenance.

Of course, in order to follow government guidelines to keep everyone safe, I will be keeping a very close eye on hygiene, ensuring everything is kept clean, sanitary and safe. Where possible, all sessions will be operated within social distancing guidelines.

It's been a very challenging few months. The studio is barely a year old and it's not easy to have to close up for the best part of 4 months for such a young business. However, thanks to the support I've received from Liverpool City Council and Culture Liverpool, I'm confident the studio will weather the storm and I can get back to making amazing records.

I run through a few bits and pieces in the studio and someone on YouTube says I sound like I could be discussing pigeons, such is my lack of enthusiasm but the jokes on you pal because I happen to think pigeons are pretty coo. Geddit?

A little bit of news about how I intend to keep the studio ticking over throughout this frankly terrifying and bewildering moment in human history.

Hi everyone.

The world's a bit weird right now, huh?

Since this whole thing started kicking off, it's been hard to think about anything else. The worries are myriad and distressing and despite the clear impact on everyone's health, it's also been a really difficult period for anyone who runs a business (pretty much of any kind).

I'm not going to pretend otherwise, I'm really worried about the future of things and how I can sustain the studio throughout this. Moreover, it feels just kind of wrong to be trying to hawk business about the place when people are getting sick and losing jobs at the same time.

With all that said, I would like to try my best to sustain myself throughout this and try and build a more positive end to the year. I've worked really hard to build Trapdoor up to where it is now and I'll be damned if I'm going to have to say goodbye to it before I've made an Emmy nominated instrumental Math Rock record here (HINT - I'll be at it forever).

While this stuff is going on, I'm going to be focussing on work I can do remotely and I would like to make my services more affordable for everyone, as a result I will be offering significantly reduced rates on:

-Online/remote mixing
-Mastering
-Decreasing deposit amounts for new sessions booked later in the year from 50% to 30%

I am also considering running some one-on-one Skype tutorials on Production/mixing too.

Brilliant week at Trapdoor this week. Last Hyena are dream boats. Their new album is fantastic.

Woah. I’m exhausted but I’ve had an amazing week with Last Hyena over at Trapdoor Studios recording their debut full length record and it’s an absolute BANGER.

Here’s a really pretty photo taken by Rory (drummist) of us tracking guitars. Despite what this looks like, we’re not playing a three-part harmonising solo, unfortunately.

Will be getting fully stuck into mix soon.
