📢 STORY OF THE DAY: Friends trek 26.2 miles from Chelmsford to Southend to support local hospice

~ The group of 11 walked a marathon across the county, starting in Chelmsford and ending at Fair Havens Hospice in Southend.

The journey took nine and a half hours in total before the team were met by friends, family and staff from Havens Hospices () at the finish line.

Judy Grocott, voluntary income manager at Havens Hospices, said: "We can’t thank these guys enough for their staggering efforts – walking 26.2 miles certainly isn’t easy and it was incredible to be there at the end to cheer them over the finish line.

"Every pound raised will make such a difference to every adult, child and family we care for, ‘Making every day count’."

📢 STORY OF THE DAY: New musical celebrates the 'very best of Essex' at Queen's Theatre Hornchurch

~ Last week saw ‘The Perseverance’ fling its welcoming public house doors open to the cast of Love Letters at the Queen’s Theatre in Hornchurch and invited its audience to be voyeurs of a beautifully written story, following the lives of four remarkable, yet ordinary, characters – Sheila, Keith, Danni and Justin.

This journey charts a couple of decades following these likeable souls – flawed and yet wholly identifiable 🎭

Written and directed by artistic director, Douglas Rintoul, the show endears itself to its local audience by referencing many Essex landmarks and sayings, helping this crowd to feel particularly at home.

📢 STORY OF THE DAY: Southend-on-Sea cat Mikey scoops win at Cats Protection's National Cat Awards 2021

~ A cat from Southend-on-Sea, who helped his owner cope after her baby was stillborn, has won a prestigious award at the National Cat Awards 2021.

The loving puss was honoured in recognition of how he helped Jessica Barnard cope after her first child was stillborn in July 2017 as part of the Outstanding Rescue Cat category.

With partner Connor required to return to his Army posting shortly after, Jessica struggled to cope with her loss and retreated away from family and friends.

She said: “Things are much brighter now, and it’s brilliant to now be able to share the good times with Mikey. There’s nothing like the feeling of knowing you’ve helped each other, and we have such a strong bond as a result. I hope this story will inspire many more people to adopt a rescue cat - with so many cats in need of homes, there’s a Mikey out there for everyone."
