It’s coming to the time where estate agents will be pressuring students into securing their uni house, you may have already encountered one, or perhaps others have told you that if you don’t get a house soon, there will be none left before you need to move in. This is simply not true. It is currently October 2021, and the new school year doesn’t begin until September 2022, which is almost a year in the future, so there’s no rush!

Students are often pressured into contracts that leave them susceptible to issues during their tenancy, including rat infestations, broken furniture, faulty heating and unfair costs from greedy landlords. Due to a lack of awareness surrounding housing rights for young people, students are left in the dark when it comes to signing tenancy agreements, so here are some dos and don’ts that can help protect you and inform you of some of your basic housing rights!

Check the article on our website, and look out for leaflets appearing soon…

This year, we are hoping to centre Black voices in our second issue of our Black History Month Magazine.

Until the 31st of October, we will be accepting and publishing articles and artwork that focus on Black history and issues.

The theme for BHM 2021 is Proud To Be, so we would particularly be interested in articles that celebrate different Black identities, achievements and contributions.

If you’re interested, you can contribute,

Opinion pieces
Personal essays
Lifestyle essays
Political writing
Art & photography

Or alternatively, we are looking for quotes from Black students that resonate with the theme, Proud to Be.

At the end of the month, all submitted articles will be available both online and in print. There is the option of donating to the Reach Out Project, a mentoring programme to support young Black boys from inner-city London.

If you want to get involved, you can email:

🚨🎯🚨

We want to contribute to the great tradition of Black History Month as we understand its importance and immediacy.

From now until the 26th of Ocotber, we will be accepting and publishing articles and artwork relevant to Black History Month and make sure UOB students from all backgrounds are enriched in this fantastic tradition.

At the end of Black History Month we will publish all your work in a print issue which you can buy! All money made off of this print issue will go to the Black Curriculum, a charity endorsed by BLM that looks to promote Black British History.

As always, if you want to send us art or written work to go onto our website and the print issue, send your work to:

Hey, I’m Meg and I’m the new Co-editor of BulsEye. I enjoyed my time as chair of BULS and I’m excited for a new challenge. Setting up this publication and working with this amazing team of people has been fab so far. Everyone is so committed and eager to bring something new to the journalism table at UoB. I’m really looking forward to seeing what we can all do together.

Hello all! We are going to be a part of a big shift in UOB’s political climate, offering a place for Lefties to organise like never before. However, we don’t just want to write for ourselves, but for the whole of UOB. If you’re on the fence, we’ll convince you to hop off onto our side; if you’re a Lib Dem (if we can reach whatever corner of campus you hide in) or a Tory, we’ll try and have you singing the Red Flag by September!

Ben: Comment Editor
As the Comment Editor of BulsEye, I hope to provide for a very broad scope of opinion articles on the issues of the day. It is a strength, not a weakness, to read and understand arguments we instinctively disagree with. More than ever, when trying to make sense of our current political climate. If you have an interesting take, then don’t hesitate and write for this section.

Hey, I’m Jennifer, the features editor. This is such an exciting opportunity for us to campaign and mobilise. We can all learn from each other and maybe even have friends instead of fractions. Please submit your work, the power of the left is its roots and the voices of those who are involved, make your voice heard! Cannot wait to read you pieces, and work with this team to make BulsEye fabulous.

Jude: Economics Editor
Hi! I’m really looking forward to editing the economics section of BulsEye. Students and young people overwhelmingly backed Labour at recent general elections, and currently there isn’t a voice on campus to accurately reflect this - something which we’re hoping to change.

Hey everyone it’s time to meet the team!

Hi! I’m Lewis, editor of our world section. I’m really excited to be getting involved with BulsEye and looking forward to seeing what we can achieve. This is a great opportunity for the UoB left and everyone is welcome to come and join the conversation

On the 25th June, the day marking George Orwell’s birthday, we will be launching a magazine… BulsEye!

This is a huge moment for the UOB Left, as the magazine will offer a great opportunity for us to organise in a way that hasn't been possible before.

We would love to share this moment with you by inviting you to enter an art competition so that you can get your work shown the home page of our online launch!

You can be as creative as you want, but must make your submission suitable for a left-wing publication.

All you have to do to win is:

- Be a member of BULS to qualify
- Send your submission to [email protected]
- Make your submission a JPEG, PNG or PDF

The competition ends on the 10th of June - good luck! 🎯
