🐾🏆 We’d like to give a big round of a-paws to our dog welfare and enforcement officers who've been recognised for the outstanding care they provide to lost and abandoned pets.

For the 14th year running our stray dog service has received the RSPCA (England & Wales)'s Gold Standard PawPrints award, which recognises teams that go above and beyond to deliver world-class animal welfare services.

Last year the team received 488 reports of dogs that had been found without an owner. The officers look after the animals and, wherever possible, trace the owner. Those who cannot be returned go to rehoming charities.

If a dog gets lost, they’re much more likely to be returned quickly if their microchip details are up-to-date and they have an ID tag on their collar.

Posted • This September we’re celebrating the fantastic heritage of the Path, starting with the South West’s most iconic lighthouses... 🌊

💡 First up, we have Trevose Head lighthouse, positioned atop 150 feet of gigantic grey granite headland. Originally two fixed lights were displayed, of which the High Lighthouse still stands. Nestled around the lighthouse, Trevose’s keepers’ cottages have been converted into holiday lets, so you can experience a stay 75 feet above the crashing sea.

💡 Made famous by Virginia Woolfe’s novel ‘To the Lighthouse’, Godrevy lighthouse’s striking 86-foot white octagonal tower can be viewed from almost anywhere in St Ives! The lighthouse was originally manned by two men who resided in a nearby cottage on the island, working two months on, one month off, until the light was automated in 1939.

💡 The distinctive red and white Portland Bill lighthouse first flashed in 1906, and the optic was removed when re-engineered in 2019. Pay a visit to the lighthouse’s visitor centre and climb the 153 steps to the lantern room for far-reaching views across Dorset’s jurassic coastline 🐚

💡 One of the most photographed lighthouses of the SWCP, Start Point sits abreast a jagged ridge of greenschist and mica-schist rock headland, mirrored by dangerous rocks below. The lighthouse was modernised in 2019, upgrading the existing navigating and control systems, installation of new LED lamps and a hazard warning signal 🚨

💡 Smeaton’s Tower is one of the south west’s most well-loved landmarks, offering fantastic views over the cityscape and Plymouth Sound from its lantern room. One of four lighthouses built to mark the Eddystone Reef, 14 miles south west of Plymouth, the upper part of the lighthouse was brought ashore in 1884 and rebuilt on the granite base it stands on today.

What shall we explore the history of next? 🤔👇

Great idea but there is also a downside: some single track lanes get very narrow and as vehicles get ridiculously large, walking them can be difficult (as one who walks them every day and regularly ends up shoved in the brambles). What’s the answer?

Forgive a little self- indulgence but this took up quite a few years of my life …
Pamela Colman Smith, tarot artist, moved from London to The Lizard, Cornwall, and eventually to Bude where she ended her days. Thanks to

Posted • This 2011 tarot card of the IV of Wands by John Cussans, depicts Pamela Colman’s house, Parc Garland, Lizard, Cornwall. I was taken by this illustration by artist Cussans, as it’s one of my favorite cards along with Pamela’s former home. The house was up for sale in 2018, Dawn Robinson of Bude Cornwall, wrote an article on the house, (https://budedawn.co.uk/2021/10/03/parc-garland-update/) and Mary K. Greer found listings for it and for the ebay listings for the fireplace, which now resides at Treadwell’s Books in London.
