I’ve got a confession to make…

I pretend to be other people on the internet 👻

You see, I write a lot of LinkedIn posts, blog posts and newsletters… but not always for myself

I also write content for:

→ Agency owners

→ Other freelancers

→ Managing directors

→ Leadership team members

→ Wellbeing coaches

→ … even an open water swimming instructor

But, you’ll never know it was me behind the content… and do you want to know why?

Because I do my research. I dive deeeep into my clients backstory. I get to know everything that makes the tick (and what ticks them off), their goals, dreams, fears, and challenges. I’ll put myself in their shoes and make sure everything I write sounds just like them (but better)

My favourite local coffee shop closed its doors last weekend. A few months ago my gym closed their doors for the last time… and I fear that this is just the beginning

Big corporations will be able to ride the waves of the cost of living crisis but your local coffee shop, baker, gift shop owner, florist, independent gym… they are all going to feel the pinch

Here’s how you can help:
• Shop with small businesses over big corporations wherever possible
• Share the love by recommending small businesses to your friends and family
• Pay full price rather than asking for ‘mates rates’ — small biz prices are fair, I promise
• Share, like and comment on their social media posts

Do your part to shop small, support local businesses and help give back to the community 🍃

I’m 29 years old and riding a bike makes my tummy do somersaults 🤸‍♀️😬

I never really learned how to ride a bike. I’m wobbly, terrified, and I death grip for dear life 🤣. I’m yet to master taking a hand off the handlebars to signal or look over my shoulder for cars without wildly veering off to the side…

But getting out on my bike and facing my sh*tty bike skills head on?

Exhilarating!

Here’s the thing though…

Getting out of your comfort zone doesn’t just apply to fun hobbies. It applies to your business too 👀

It’s easy to get caught up in the hum-drum of business life — working through your to-do list, ticking tasks off, and keeping clients happy

But when did you last do something that made your tummy flip?

Something that makes your squirm with discomfort BUT that you know will drive your business forward?

Maybe it’s attending a networking event, writing a newsletter, contacting an old lead about future work opportunities, raising your rates, launching that new project that you dream about every single night…

Whatever it is — this is your sign to do the damn thing ✌️

Get out of your comfort zone and mix things up in your biz!

Your Instagram post might not reach 816,144 people these days BUT if it comes from the heart and overflows with value, it’s going to connect with the right people… and that’s more important, right?!

This is your permission slip to stop doing what you *think* you should and start doing what you actually *want* to do

Throw all your misconceptions, doubts and worries in the f*ck-it bucket and just have some fun 🍃☕️

Fika Digital officially started in June 2021 when it became a Limited Company BUT Fika Digital actually started much earlier than that ☕️

For as long as I have worked, I’ve always dreamed of working for myself. I never wanted to be part of the concrete jungle — taking orders from someone else and lining their pockets while adhering to the standard 9-5 life

I wanted to build something of my own. I wanted to live life on my own terms and use my skills, knowledge and passion to help others

I set up numerous “side hustles” from the age of 19

In 2018, I secured my first freelance writing client and was amazed that someone actually wanted to pay me to write!! I realised *this* is what I wanted to do

In 2019 (yep 2 years before it became official), I unofficially started Fika Digital. A promise to myself to get out of the concrete jungle and start building my own business ✨

But I never pushed forward with it. I was too scared, held back by what-ifs and doubts 🤷‍♀️. I told myself I needed to build up a financially safety net before I could quit my job. That I needed to get clients before starting my own business…

It wasn’t until June 2021 that Fika Digital became real

From January 2020 - June 2021, I freelanced under my old blog name of Grandiose Days. This was another way of staying small and protecting myself

Until, finally, I launched Fika Digital 💥

The truth is, you don’t need clients or a master plan before starting. If you *really* want something, you just need self-belief, passion and determination to succeed no matter what

So that’s it, the secret journey of Fika Digital

My business may be 1-year old on paper but in reality it’s much, much older than that 💛

Fika is an attitude, a state of mind, a ritual

It’s about slowing down, connecting with people & recharging your brain. And I’m ready to embrace the fika behind Fika Digital

I’m here to work with soul-aligned clients — the people who have burning passion for their business while appreciating life outside of their business. The ones who see value in showing up authentically to all corners of their life. The ones who want to live their *best* possible life, whatever that may look like

And so, my website has gone under a little redesign. I wanted it to better reflect who I am, what I do, and how we can work together

It’s a work-in-progress and I’ve still got soooo much more to share with you. But for now, this’ll do 💛

And I’m so freaking excited for this next phase of my Fika Digital journey ☕️🍃

When I first started Fika Digital, I thought I wanted to build a powerhouse of a content marketing agency

Big clients, a huge team and earning all the £££££

But I quickly (okay, okay, it wasn’t that quick) realised that’s not what makes me happy. And it’s definitely not what Fika Digital is about either

What I really want is to:
• Work with passionate business owners, service providers and brands
• Help them turn their business dreams into reality
• Work with clients on a personal-level so I can build strong bonds and dig into the nitty-gritty needs of their biz
• Have a healthy work-life balance (gimme 4 day weeks, time off and breathing room in my working day please)
• Be able to pay the bills and have some money left over for the things that nourish my soul

And so, I’m in the process of reworking Fika Digital. I’m realigning my business model with my business values and beliefs

I’m reconnecting with the Fika element of Fika Digital — connecting with my community, practicing slow, intentional living and recharging my creative and mental energy ☕️💛

Oh and indulging in as many delicious sweet treats as possible, of course 🥞

Move over Google, there’s a new search engine in town 👀

The way people use social media has changed massively in the past few years

We no longer see social media as just somewhere to share our thoughts, photos and feelings (anyone else getting major MySpace and Tumblr vibes here or is it just me?)

Nope ❌

Socia media is now somewhere we go for inspiration, advice, recommendations…

I’ll use myself as an example here 👇

Let’s say I’m visiting a new town and I want to know where the best places to go are. Do you know what I do? I hit up the location on Instagram then scour through the Top and Most Recent posts to see what’s worth a visit

Trying out a new skincare routine and not sure where to start? I’ll head over to TikTok and see what people recommend — I recently did this for my Glycolic Acid and whewwww, I was blown away 🤯

Want to find out the latest goings-on on the world? I’ll shimmy over to Twitter and see what news is breaking over there

See, social media is about sooo much more than just sharing your brand. It’s a search engine and you need to make sure you’re visibile

I loved working with Alex at Alex Nunn] to refresh her website copy

Alex has a beautiful brand with strong values. Her positive energy and desire to help others is truly infectious. And that’s exactly what I aimed to capture in this copywriting project 💫

Using soulful language, I crafted new on-page copy that tells the story of Clear Sea Coaching, showcasing Alex’s skills as a Coaching Psychologist and the benefits her programmes offer

This is easily my favourite project I’ve worked on lately — copywriting for coaches just sets my soul on fire and Alex was a dream to work with 💛

1, 2… gone 👀

You only get 2 seconds to grab people’s attention so you need to make sure you’re hooking them in from the get-go

Now, grabbing people’s attention doesn’t mean falling back on clickbait images or shock-tactic filled copy 🙅‍♀️

It means speaking their language. Using words they can connect with. Sharing images and videos they just *get*. Pin-pointing a problem they face and offering a solution 😍

Do all those things right and it’ll only take 2 seconds to get your people on board. That’s all you need — 2 sweet, little seconds

Elicit emotion and you’ll help your customers build core memories with you and your brand at the heart 💛

So…what are you going to do to make your ideal customers’ next 2 seconds worth it?

The answer to most of your marketing questions will be “it depends”…

Because, guess what? Marketing isn’t black and white 🤷‍♀️

There’s no clear-cut solution or secret strategy to success. The best marketing strategy for your business isn’t necessarily the best strategy for the business next door to you

And it can be a total minefield to navigate on your own 🤯

But if there’s one thing I CAN tell you, it’s this: every business needs marketing

Marketing is the difference between being seen by your customers and disappearing into the background

It’s the difference between growing a business that stands strong after one year and one that closes its doors

And I’m not saying this to scare you. Seriously, fear-mongering marketing tactics aren’t my bag 🤢

I’m saying this because you NEED to invest in your marketing one way or another.

Right now, the UK Gov are urging companies to help the cost of living crisis by cutting back on marketing 🫠

But honestly, if you do that, you’ll only line the pockets of big corporations

Indie brands will struggle without marketing, small entrepreneurs will be invisible, and customers will just go to the big brand names they know… because if you aren’t shouting about your biz, who else will?

Sure, the kind of marketing you do depends on a multitude of factors BUT you have options. You alwaaaays have options

Marketing can be homegrown. It can be creative and affordable. Marketing can be free (I’m looking at you blogs, organic social media and SEO)
