Luis says, “Hello, my name is Luis Pedro Picasso. I am a 37 year old Uruguayan artist. I am an illustrator, designer and painter.

I am passionate about creating characters in my mind and bringing them to life. I like to work on the basis of each organism, highlight its colours and exploit them to give life. When I was a student in high school, I was passionate about living organisms and their functioning. I love the human and animal body, dissections, and as regardless of our visible physical differences, we are all equal in our essence. Life is a constantly expanding work of art, let us try to provide our brushstrokes.”

We are SO excited to announce the OPEN CALL for our next EXHIBITION which will take place at The Outsider Gallery in Dalston this November! The theme is ‘Q***r Time’ and the deadline to submit is 20th September!

Time is different for us. The markers of a life have not always been accessible to q***r people: marriage, children, their children and so on. And then there’s coming out, again and again. Transitioning, changing our bodies, changing our pronouns. Many of us explore as our true selves late.

This will be a group show of work from q***r and trans artists curated by t’ART. We are calling for work about how q***rness lives in time, about beginnings and endings and beginning again. How do you measure time? How do you q***r it? How do our trans fingers remake it?

Today we are sharing this stunning drawing called ‘Breaking Open’ by 🍓

They say, “Prying open a pomegranate is an act of revelation. To me, it’s much like the journey of discovering one’s identity. The tough outer skin is painstakingly and carefully peeled back, uncovering something precious (and vibrant). The process can be messy and complex but is ultimately rewarding (unless you hate pomegranates- maybe this isn’t quite the metaphor for you!). Separately, there’s no denying the sensuality of a pomegranate- the fleshy interior, the messy necessity of prying out the insides, and the sweetness of the fruit all lend to an idea of q***r lo******ng. Altogether, the piece is meant to represent multiple aspects of q***rness. I hope you can find an aspect that resonates with you!”

They believe in art as a community-building tool. Beyond art, they enjoy gardening, reading, and watching ducks (they are currently enamored with the Surf Scoter).

“The Vatican was, and remains, the 5th largest art gallery in the world; they commissioned hundreds, if not thousands, of pieces during the Renaissance. The only caveat to this is that not one painting or sculpture was to be signed. That is, except one. Michelangelo, that real party dude, in an act of rebellion snuck back to add his name to his sculpture ‘The Pietà’ because he needed the world to see his value. He also didn’t enjoy that at a youthful 23 years old no one believed his talent. The chiselling (just below the breast) roughly translates to “Michelangelo was here” because isn’t art just an act of rebellion?”
