Watkin Jones Group have fantastic news to share.

In partnership with Hines United Kingdom, they have secured institutional investment to forward fund a 260 bed PBSA (Purpose Built Student Accommodation) scheme at Gas Lane, in Bristol.

Alex Pease, their Chief Executive Officer commented: “We are delighted to announce the forward sale of this student accommodation development. This is our first transaction with Hines and we look forward to working with such a highly-regarded partner going forward.

“This transaction gives us confidence that sentiment in the institutional market continues to recover. As the market shows further signs of improvement, we are well-positioned to capitalise on this given our position in PBSA and Build to Rent, two of the most attractive asset classes in real estate.”

The site will provide much needed student housing amidst the chronic and ongoing housing shortage across the UK, including Bristol, and will be completed in time for the start of the 2025/26 academic year.

RED Construction Group Special Projects division has been appointed by Merlin Entertainments to deliver the hub facilities for phase one of LEGOLAND Windsor Resort's Woodland Village which will open in Spring 2024.

Phase one of the The Woodland Village development will feature 150 accommodation lodges, attracting thousands of UK and international visitors to Windsor, who will be able to create magical memories together surrounded by nature.

RED Special Project’s works will include the creation of a large ‘Hub’ to provide a restaurant, stage, bar, various play areas, large WC facilities, and an industrial kitchen.

Plans to build affordable homes on the former Bellingham Auction Mart site in Northumberland have taken a step forward with Esh Construction now appointed as contractor.

The £12.8 million contract will be delivered in partnership with Karbon Homes to bring much-needed affordable housing to the centre of Bellingham.

Big milestones have been achieved on Morgan Sindall Construction & Infrastructure’s Manor Road project in Canning Town in the London Borough of Newham.

They have reached the half way point with their unitised cladding to Block A and the 16th floor installation is complete. They are now exactly half way up the 32 storey building, with fit-out works following closely behind.

They’ve also achieved fully weathertight milestones on Blocks B and C with the last of the door and window installations finishing up. Final decoration works have also now commenced to the 1st floor apartments in these blocks.

VFK, a Joint Venture between VolkerFitzpatrick Ltd and Kier Group is celebrating the full launch of the Luton DART, a fully automated and electrically powered people mover which connects Luton Airport Parkway station with London Luton Airport terminal.
The Luton DART (Direct Air-Rail Transit), which launched its 24-hour timetable this week, replaces the previous bus service and speeds passengers along the route in under four minutes.

Severfield’s M8 footbridge project is now open to the public.

Severfield worked alongside BAM UK & Ireland and Glasgow City Council to supply and install the steelwork for this new 58-metre-long pedestrian and cyclist footbridge across the M8, connecting Sighthill and Glasgow city centre.

In total, 17 complex steel assemblies were transported to the temporary offline build position site and welded together whilst on temporary trestles. They also manufactured and transported the curved abutments as one complete assembly, these were then lifted into position by crane, ready to receive the bridge.

BAM engineers have made the finishing touches to a landmark new active travel bridge in Glasgow which will connect over 800 new homes in the Sighthill area to the city centre. 
The eye-catching new bridge over Scotland’s busiest motorway opened to pedestrian and cyclists for the first time this morning (Wednesday 22nd March).
The bridge is part of a £250m regeneration of the north Glasgow neighbourhood and is the biggest regeneration project in the country outside of London.

Mace is building London’s most sustainable office tower.

With green living at its core, EDGE London Bridge will redefine the future of the office. Those using the building will enjoy fresh air and natural light, courtesy of underfloor ventilation and floor-to-ceiling windows, which are said to be important workplace factors for some employees.

This 260,000 sq.ft development will also add much-needed green space in the local area with the introduction of a new spacious park.

Higgins Partnerships 📣

As part of London Borough of Hackney Housing Supply Programme to develop underused infill sites within existing estates to create much needed affordable housing, work has started to provide 59 new apartments at Wimbourne Street.

The mixed use development will consist of two linear buildings, with equal thirds across socially rented, affordable and private sale homes.

There will also be a new cafe/commercial space, creation of a new playground, relocation of existing car parking and new pavement and general landscaping works to improve general open space and amenity areas across the site.

Luddon Construction Limited have been appointed as main contractor to deliver the refurbishment of a retail unit in Coatbridge.

The existing B&Q has been sub-divided to create the 20,000sqft unit, which will become a new Aldi store.

J Tomlinson Limited are delivering a comprehensive conversion scheme of the Grade II* listed Old Stables into state-of-the-art business studios on behalf of Erewash Borough Council.

The Long Eaton based establishment will be transformed to create modern office spaces, achieved through the demolition and internal strip out of the existing interior, followed by installation, fit-out, and additional mechanical and electrical works delivered by J Tomlinson's in-house M&E team.

Avant Homes Central team has secured planning to build 250 homes for a £58m development in Awsworth, Nottinghamshire.

Called Bennerley View, the development will include a mix of 2, 3, 4 and 5-bedroom homes with prices starting from £169,995.

‘The Waterline’ is a striking collection of 251 canal-side one, two and three bedroom apartments with shared ownership. Residents will enjoy landscaped terraces stepping down to canal-side facilities including a café and community space.

This regeneration development involved the demolition of a commercial building and delivery of a modern, mixed-use scheme including a 27-storey residential block, affordable workspaces, retail units, supermarket and car parking facilities.

Landsec have announce that they have received planning permission for the redevelopment of Red Lion Court, Bankside.

Importantly, Red Lion Court has been designed with BIG - Bjarke Ingels Group to be net zero in both construction and operation. At Landsec, sustainability is at the forefront of their purpose and they are thrilled to be able to reuse part of the existing building, prioritising low carbon and recycled materials. This will enable them to meet or exceed GLA and Southwark policy in terms of sustainability, biodiversity and energy efficiency.

Birmingham’s latest and one of its largest contemporary commercial buildings, One Centenary Way, has reached its final construction milestone.

The building has reached Practical Completion (PC) this week, with contractor Sir Robert McAlpine handing the building over to developer and asset manager MEPC, ready for the occupier fit out phase of internal works.

Morgan Sindall Construction’s Northern Home Counties business has begun work on site at The Windmill School in Barnet to improve the number of quality SEN places in the region.

Being delivered on behalf of the Department for Education (DfE) and Barnet Special Education Trust, The Windmill School will be an all-age school for up to 90 pupils aged 5-18 with a primary diagnosis of autism, becoming the first publicly funded specialist school for autism in Barnet. It is being developed by senior leaders from Oak Lodge School in East Finchley, supported by a team of specialist academics and education consultants.

Glencar Construction completed the redevelopment of the former Alpha Warehouse in Golborne Wigan for client Rula Developments.

Works included demolition of an existing warehouse unit followed by the design and build of a 120,725 sq ft distribution unit with offices, external yard, car park and associated hard standings, landscaping, drainage and off-site highway work alterations.

The project team included CAMEG PROJECT MANAGEMENT LIMITED AJA Architects LLP RPP and BWB Consulting Ltd.

In Liverpool, McAleer & Rushe are delivering a 268-bed hotel on Park Lane for Valorem Investment Partners, to be branded as a Maldron hotel. Located at the junction of Liver Street and Park Lane, where the city centre meets the start of the Baltic Triangle, the project is transforming a key site for Liverpool which was previously occupied as a surface car park since 1977. Following excavation works and associated archaeological investigations, the concrete frame is now rising from the ground. Currently at Level 3, the structure will rise to 9-storeys configured to wrap around a bright internal courtyard and façade works will commence in early March. Designed to achieve a BREEAM Very Good rating, the building will include extensive blue and green roofs incorporated into the design.
