Rymour Books is an award-winning small Scottish independent publisher MISSION - RYMOUR BOOKS was founded in 2020. Email us at [email protected]

It incorporates books published earlier under the imprint Hog's Back, originally set up to publish books on the Scottish folk tradition (the imprint is still used for certain academic titles). Our intention is to publish quality Scottish books by current authors and reprints of works of Scottish substance worthy of further attention. We are a new (2020) independent publishing initiative designed to directly engage writers and readers with new literature to raise the standard of writing and reading opportunities for presentation to the public. We celebrate, promote and develop Scotland’s rich and growing literary culture by improving and sustaining quality, raising awareness, and increasing access for writers and readers. Our aim is to build accessible resources and opportunities for writers and readers in Scotland and internationally, for the public, and industry professionals alike. This resource will be available to search online with direct links to the purchase of literature. A small independent publisher, we're starting off small with the potential to be a significant national resource. This enterprise will be a significant tool in the promotion of Scotland creating trade opportunities throughout the UK and overseas. At Rymour Books we’re always on the lookout for exciting new partners to work with. We’re proud to have a diverse and dynamic range of books and authors in our catalogue, and we know that working with partners is essential to our business success. Whether you’re a print or e-book retailer, a brand, a start-up or something completely different, if you have an opportunity for us or believe we could do something innovative and interesting together, we’d be pleased to hear from you.

Please come to the launch of Seal Song today (The Record Factory, Byres Road, 3.30pm). Meanwhile, here's a poem from the collection based on a famous Hill and Adamson photograph.

FOUR FISHES

It is often said that there are many fish
in every sea, and here you stand,
splendid in your shawls,
facing an eternity of choices.

And here you are also, four little fishes,
elected from millions of millions,
bones, worms, guts suborned to your symbolic end,
silver darlings, sun-glinted like precious jewels.

And this silent momentary seed
will feed the cadence of coming days and years,
your children and your childrens’ children
cascading into futures outwith your ken.

And this genius of salt-sea passion
will last and last and last for
it is the crux of the photographic craft
to conjure the future as if it were the past.
