The blog has been quiet for a while, but we're back with a brand new section: introducing Essays and Reviews! A lot of our contributors are students who read lots of books and write lots of essays, and we wanted to create a platform specifically for that kind of writing. This week, our editor Coggin Galbreath is kicking things off with an essay about Roland Barthes and 'The Death of the Author.' If you want to review a book or write an essay, let us know! (Usual blog submissions are, of course, still open as well 💛)

"May we be of those who remember the promise of a day certain, for this life is in the span of eternity but a day or part of a day." This week, Safaa Loukili shares her thoughts on making peace with uncertainty.

This article was originally published just a few weeks after the pandemic hit the UK. It is even more relevant six months later, when it feels like uncertainty is the only thing we can count on for sure.

So you think you’re not religious: How the stories we tell ourselves shape how we think - David Clegg

Do you understand how your brain uses stories to construct the reality you experience?

Do you know which meta-narrative you subscribe to?

Could your crisis of meaning be better understood as a crisis of narrative?

No matter your answers or how you respond to this weeks article, the value comes from examining these questions to begin with.

This week's dialogue article asks the question of 'How can we engage in peaceful dialogue?' and again we got really insightful reflections from some of the University of St. Andrews faith chaplains.

This article engages with a topic that is at the heart of TruThink's vision and as usual we would love to know what you think!

We have another article reflecting on George Floyd’s murder. Safaa Loukili discusses, from her Islamic perspective, Satan as the first racist. The article gives a profound emotive and intellectual insight into how dehumanising the other comes from a place of arrogance and how important humility is as a response. During this time we are going to share a range of perspectives in response to George Floyd’s murder as the situation really challenges us on the need to engage with the perspectives and experiences of those who are different from us and Safaa’s article really echoes the importance of why we all need to engage with ideas different from our own.

Safaa Loukili When I came across the murder video, I was horrified, I was angry, I was disgusted, but as many people have expressed by now, I was not surprised. Why? Because it is not the first tim…
