Six of his albums are among the top 100 biggest-selling albums in the UK and he gained a Guinness World Record in 2006 for selling 1.6 million tickets in a single day during his Close Encounters Tour. American singer Roberta Flack who had the 1972 US No.1 single 'The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face'. Clint Eastwood chose the song for the soundtrack of his directorial debut Play Misty for Me. The song was written by British political singer/songwriter Ewan MacColl for Peggy Seeger, who later became his wife. Flack also had the 1973 US No.1 & UK No.6 single 'Killing Me Softly With His Song'. Flack was the first artist to win the Grammy Award for Record of the Year in two consecutive years: 'The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face' won in 1973 and 'Killing Me Softly with His Song' won in 1974.

American singer and songwriter, who was the first artist to record a hit for Motown Records. He wrote many other Motown hits with Norman Whitfield including, 'Money', 'I Heard It Through the Grapevine', 'War', 'Ball Of Confusion', and 'Papa Was A Rolling Stone'. Strong died at home in the La Jolla district of San Diego, California, on 28 January 2023, aged 81.

STEVE MARRIOTT

English guitarist, singer and songwriter. He was a major influence on many UK bands. Marriott was a member of Small Faces who had the 1967 UK No.3 & US No.16 single with ‘Itchycoo Park’ plus the 1968 No.1 UK album Ogden’s Nut Gone Flake. He later formed Humble Pie (with Peter Frampton), who had the 1969 UK No.4 single ‘Natural Born Bugie’. After the departure of Mick Taylor in 1975 from the Rolling Stones, Marriott was considered as his replacement; however, Mick Jagger allegedly blocked the move after Marriott upstaged him during the audition. Marriott died in a house fire on 20 April 1991.
