The Ronald Harwood classic, The Dresser, opens at the Caxton Theatre this evening and we thoroughly recommend it.

Ronald Harwood's tragi-comic play first performed in 1980, is a perfect choice for the Caxton Players to stage. It brings the glamour of old-school grand theatre to the stage of a small provincial theatre not unlike the stage at the Caxton itself. It tells the story of a showbiz duo - a grand Actor....

Review Culture's Andy Evans has a new play premiering for one night only at the Parkway Theatre in Cleethorpes this evening. "Tickler's Angels" is about the women who worked in Tickler's Jam Factory in Grimsby during WW1 - if you can make it we'd love to see you there.

As our reviewer and photographer is currently awaiting knee replacement surgery, Review Culture is no longer taking on any new bookings to review shows. We are sorry to disappoint but needs must and we hate letting people down by cancelling. Once Andy has had surgery he will be unavailable for a minimum of three months. This means that it is unlikely that we will be able to review any shows not already promised until February at the earliest but we will make an announcement about that when we know more about Andy's condition.

Last night, Review Culture visited Louth to see a dress rehearsal of Anything Is Possible If You Think About It Hard Enough by Cordelia O'Neil performed by the Louth Playgoers.

Cordelia O'Neill's play sensitively directed by Jamie Harris, assisted by Sarah Elliott is a challenging pick for Louth Playgoers to perform. Nevertheless, it is a must-see production, dealing with an important, often unspoken issue that is stillbirth and neonatal death. Not the most commercially ap...

Yesterday saw the launch of Grimsby Auditorium's 2024 pantomime Dick Whittington and the Pirates From the Carribean.

Review Culture was invited to the launch of Grimsby's sparkling new pantomime for 2024 as the cast were presented to an excited audience. We were there to catch some photos as the cast of Dick Whittington and the Pirates From The Caribbean were unveiled to the waiting journalists, photographers and....

Running this week at the Embassy Theatre in Skegness.

Award-winning playwright W***y Russell's epic tale of Liverpool life started as a play performed in the round at Fazakerley Comprehensive School in Liverpool in 1981 in collaboration with Merseyside Young People's Theatre. That (non-musical) version is the one most frequently performed across the UK...

I watched the dress rehearsal of The Tempest last night at the Caxton Theatre.

Director Jack Scott has produced a winning, highly accessible version of the Shakespeare classic for Grimsby audiences which opens on Saturday and runs for a week at the Caxton Theatre. With a flexible playing space that looks as if a tornado has whipped up a classic seaside resort and dropped it on...

Opening on Saturday this week at the Caxton Theatre, is Tommy Lee Johnson's Geezers.

With the Caxton Theatre selling out on their last play, performances of their latest offering are already at low availability and audience members should rush to get tickets for this show new writing is proving very popular in 2024. Geezers is the European premiere of a play by Tommy Lee Johnson and...

Last night, I went to see The Three Musketeers at the Parkway Theatre in Cleethorpes for Review Culture.

Class Act Productions is really working overtime with this production, with it only being little over a week since their last show, Jessie's Tree. This time, it is the turn of the adults in the company. I really felt for the cast in the vast space of the Parkway Theatre as they had to compete for an...

Sister Act opened at Grimsby Auditorium last night and Review Culture was invited to attend...

It was delightful to see a packed house for the opening night of Sister Act at Grimsby Auditorium. The scene is set upon arrival with 70s disco music playing and an arch across the proscenium that offers the suggestion of a church but with a disco twist and bright lights focussed on the audience bef...

Last night, we went to see Jessie's Tree by Class Act.

Jessie's Tree is a play about remembrance overall, and it encourages its audiences to value love and friendship and to remember others when dealing with grief. Originally written for the Millennium, the play spans four time periods and features a large cast. It is a lengthy one-act play especially s...

Avenue Q opens at the Lincoln Arts Centre tonight. Grab a ticket while you still can!

I must confess that this is a show I have been waiting a full 12 months to see at the Lincoln Arts Centre, since seeing All Shook Up by the same company last year and noticing their advertisement for this production at the back of the programme. I love Avenue Q, but I am well aware that since it has...

After a scary technical glitch, I believe Review Culture is back... here is our review of Hens opening at the Caxton Theatre this weekend...

Over 80 years ago, The Caxton Players was established as a touring company operating out of St Andrew's Church in Freeman Street. They were formed by members of staff from the Grimsby Telegraph, hence the name Caxton. They toured local RAF bases to lift the moral among those serving their King and C...

This morning, we wrote a review for the Caxton Theatre's latest production of Hens, which I posted and when we checked, the whole blog which has been running since January 2020 featuring hundreds of productions over the last four years has been wiped. We will be contacting the site host to check if they have a backup on their server, but right now we are quite despondent. Please bear with us in the hope that normal service may be resumed.

Review Culture's Andy Evans is looking to raise £150 for Dementia UK by walking 100km in June. Whilst this would be a doable challenge for many people, Andy has increasingly suffered from mobility issues, walks with a stick and is awaiting double knee replacement surgery - so it will be a REAL challenge to do this. If you have benefitted from the publicity given to your shows by Andy in the past, always provided free of charge, please consider making a donation to this worthy cause.

Opening tonight and already a total sell out!

This week, Louth Playgoers finally manage to stage their revival of Lionel Bart's classic of musical theatre, Oliver! It has been a long time coming as it was originally scheduled for production in 2020 but, unfortunately, due to the pandemic the show was initially postponed and then eventually canc...

On Sunday, Review Culture visited the Embassy Theatre to see Steve Steinman's new show, "Love Hurts".

This is my third year reviewing Steve Steinman's work when he visits the Embassy Theatre at Skegness, having previously reviewed Ghost Train and Anything For Love, hopes were high for the new show. Unlike many who do not necessarily follow Steve on social media, I was aware that he is currently reco...
