A great social media workshop this morning with my Durham-based client.

We've gone through everything from what the purpose of social media is, creating the perfect LinkedIn profile, content creation and why employee advocacy is so important to businesses.

I'll be catching up with the team again next month to see how they're improving their profiles and engagement, and, when a member of staff has a LinkedIn social selling index score of 2, the only way is up! 📈

I was definitely spoilt last week when it came to events that showcased the North East, none more so than attending the North East BIC's celebration event for Enterprising Sunderland on Friday.

A truly amazing atmosphere, we were treated to inspirational panelists, fantastic music by Ruby Kelly (who is definitely going to be a name you'll hear more of), great company and as you can see, a mouth-watering afternoon tea.

I'm so lucky to be part of the North East BIC, it was definitely a great move when I took up a co-working space last year and Friday proved just what brilliant support they give to the area.

Thanks to John Forth for the invitation and for being a great host, also lovely to catch up with lots of North East contacts.

What better way during National Careers Week than to head to Gateshead College for their 'Bridging the Gap' event.

Attending with my CyberNorth hat on, it was brilliant to hear about the opportunities for young people within the North East and take part in a speed networking session (which was great fun!).

Lots of students studying cyber security so it was great to give them more information on the cluster, our members and the fantastic pathways and resources available to them.

Well done in particular to one student, who, during the speed networking, asked if he could give me his CV. Fantastic resourcefulness from a young student, absolutely brilliant to see.

Never underestimate the simple things in marketing.

A Google Business Profile is a free tool which all businesses should be utilising.

Working with a client since November last year, they had a free page, however, never updated it. Over the last three months, I've optimised the page, started posting updates and most importantly, the team have actively started to ask their clients for Google reviews.

⭐ They're now up to 19 five-star reviews (after only having 3 initially and one was over 10 years old!).

They've now picked up a new client this week who particularly mentioned seeing their Google reviews. These are all relatively small improvements which businesses can carry out, however, they can make a huge difference.

Congratulations to my client, Brighter Compliance Ltd, as they share their expansion plans in this month's Northern Insight Magazine.

Brighter, who have recently been named as the chosen compliance partner of Warmworks, have opened their first office north of the border as they look to support installers with PAS certification.

It's a bit weird talking about yourself, isn't it? 🤔

Well, that's exactly what I did this morning after being asked by Caroline Hagan to be a speaker at her ever-popular Kraken Networking event.

Of course, I had the usual imposter syndrome, will I bore everyone to tears, what's interesting about my story, do I actually know what I'm talking about, you know, the usual thoughts.

The event, however, was brilliant, such a lovely group of businesses there so I didn't feel nervous at all. Telling other people the story of how I started my business at the beginning of the Covid pandemic seems like a million miles away now but hopefully, it inspires a buddy business owner. As for my talk, nobody fell asleep, I didn't get heckled and the questions from the audience were great.

I'm calling that a result. 💪

Working on a marketing campaign with an unlimited budget. Life goals, eh?

Well, that’s exactly what the students at Durham Sixth Form Centre had to work with when I went to see them last week as they worked on a 12 week campaign as part of their BTEC Marketing course.

From energy drinks, ice cream and fashion stores, they'd picked a range of products and services, however, you may wonder what’s the point of students having an unlimited budget.

Because it lets their imagination go wild. If they want Beyonce and Taylor Swift to have a cocktail-off while promoting a slushy machine, they’re there. If they decide to organise a collaboration with Spotify on a tailored playlist with a brand, they can!

We know (and they know) it’s not like this in real life, however, allowing students to use their imagination boosts their creativity and who knows, maybe one day they’ll be working with the biggest stars in the business. ⭐

I'm very lucky to have the opportunity to have meaningful, regular catch-ups with the students and hopefully support them with their course and yes, it keeps me down with the kids too. 😄

After working with Gary Howes over recent months on a new website and copywriting project, I'm super pleased to be now supporting the Steel River Business Insurance team on their marketing too.

The company, who are based in Stokesley, provide business insurance such as death in service, key person, shareholder protection, private health cover and life plans.

It's amazing how you get sucked into an industry and want to learn more about it so it's been great to find out more over the last few months, who knew life insurance could be a total eye-opener! 👀

Together, we'll be working on social media, email campaigns, business development, PR and lots more so keep an eye out for future info (or follow their business page on FB).

An insightful morning at Newcastle Building Society as they hosted the North East Ambition networking event with The North East Combined Authority.

It's always good for the education and business sector to engage and collaborate, as someone who has been an Enterprise Advisor for over two years and volunteered in schools for many years, I can see the benefits to both sides and it's crucial these links are maintained.

One notable stat from this morning, 'A young person who has four or more meaningful encounters with an employer is 86% less likely to be unemployed or not in education or training, they can also earn up to 22% more during their career'.

👀 Wow, just read that stat - they can earn up to 22% more in their career.

This is the impact that we can make by working together. 🤝

It's always good for businesses to continually look to improve and receive feedback from their customers, it's something I tell my clients regularly.

Yesterday afternoon, I was lucky enough to take part in a North East BIC focus group. 🙌

Hosted by MMC Research, we discussed the services the BIC provides, what we had gained from having a presence here and what they could do to improve.

Not only did we put forward some pretty good ideas (I thought, anyway!) but I got to meet tenants at the BIC I hadn't met before, just another great way to mix with fellow businesses.

I can honestly say that getting a co-working space here was one of the best business decisions I've made and I can't wait to see how the business centre evolves over the coming months and years. 💪

Cyber security is taking over my life (but in a good way!). 😄

Since starting to work with the team at CyberNorth in December last year, I've had a whirlwind crash course in all things cyber.

Don't get me wrong, I love to be bombarded with information, it's so much better than having to beg for content but hey, the team have certainly obliged!

Finding out about the work that goes on within the cluster in the North East has been mind-blowing, the opportunities within the sector, events and collaborations between businesses is fantastic.

It's not until you look at your camera roll that you realise what an amazing 2024 it's been! 📸

As I prepare to wind down for the Christmas hols, eat buffet food for a week (at least), watch nothing but the darts 🎯, the Gavin & Stacey special and obviously, have a few nights out, time to say Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all of my fabulous clients, friends and networking buddies.

Thank you all once again for supporting me and my business and being there when I needed you, even if that was just someone to hear me say 'does this sound alright to you?'

The North East is a fabulous place to live and work and we all couldn't be luckier to have such an amazing business community. ❤

A fab afternoon of networking at Sunderland Empire yesterday, thanks to Paula Mitchell for the kind invitation! Gutted I couldn't stay for the Jack and the Beanstalk panto but the networking more than made up for it.

A great way to end my networking exploits for the year and so nice to catch up with so many networking buddies and friends.

My last visit of the year to Durham Sixth Form Centre last week to take part in two afternoons of mock interviews with their BTEC marketing students.

Every year, the quality of the students impresses me. Their confidence, work ethic, resilience and communication skills were fantastic, bearing in mind these are 17 or 18 year olds who may never have had an interview before.

Well done to everyone who took part, the fabulous teachers, careers advisors and of course, my lovely bunch of volunteers. Every year they give up their time and provide their feedback, it’s so appreciated by myself, the sixth form and most definitely, the students.

Another great day yesterday with the CyberNorth team at their latest CyberSips event.

Focused on marketing professionals within the cyber community, it was lovely to meet members of this fantastic community, discuss the plans and projects CyberNorth has planned for 2025 and how everyone can get involved.

As I said yesterday, any membership group is only as good as what people put into it, there are so many opportunities within this growing sector, I'm looking forward to showcasing our members with case studies, introductions, knowledge sharing and shining a light on the outstanding work that is taking place in the North East. 💪

Happy New Year everyone! Starting to think about work after a lovely break and I'm raring to get going on what I'm not going to be doing in 2024. Yup, I won't be smashing it 🙄, I won't be working hard and playing harder 🙄🙄, I won't be getting up at silly o'clock to get cracking (because I love my bed too much), so, all in all, I'll just be getting on with what I always do. That's working hard for my clients, hopefully having lots of laughs along the way, being a nice person (it's over-rated for a lot of people), going on holiday, running and sharing pictures of Paddy 🐶, oh, and I might start eating more apples this year, I need to up my game in the fruit department. Another day, another brilliant north east event! 💪 Thanks to the North East Automotive Alliance for organising a great expo at the Beacon of Light Sunderland, lovely to catch up with all the exhibitors and fellow delegates. Representing Hydraulic & Offshore Supplies, it was great to have three Meet the Buyer meetings too, always good to showcase the range of products and services HOS offer and hopefully become a valuable member of their supply chain.

Who knew that organising video reviews could be such good fun? 📽 I've been working recently on getting together a range of video reviews for my client, Compliant Ltd, alongside the brilliant Lee Axon. We recently visited north east business, Armah Switchgear and spoke to their QA representative, Paul Croft. Now, Paul's not used to speaking to camera so this was totally out of his comfort zone (as it is for many to be fair!). After many bloopers (not just by Paul by the way, I had a few too), Lee worked his magic and we got a fabulous finished video, the bloopers seem to have made more of a hit though! Thanks to Lee for his patience, can't wait to organise the next one! 👇

Another great issue of Northern Insight Magazine this month with the added bonus of seeing my fabulous client, Hydraulic and Offshore Supplies sharing their recent good news. The company, which have been based in Sunderland for over 30 years, have passed a nationally recognised safety scheme with zero non-conformities. I know I'm biased (I worked here for many years 😊) but it really is another example of a fantastic north east business providing first-class service and boosting the local economy, I'm super lucky to work with them. #NorthEast #Manufacturing

As I (eventually) sign off and down tools before Christmas, a big Merry Christmas to all of my clients, colleagues and friends who have supported me and my business this year.
