Timeblocking: Yay or Neigh? 🐴
Lots of small business owners like to block out chunks of time for specific tasks, and this can be a useful way of staying on-task and focused.
Allocating a specific amount of time to each client can help you to ensure everyone is getting the right amount of time and attention, and it can also help you to spot occasions when a client is perhaps getting too much time in relation to their service level / package.
Timeblocking can also help you to get those tasks done that you really don't enjoy and tend to procrastinate on. If you set aside 30 minutes to do a task, you may be more likely to do it because you know you'll only be spending a small amount of your day on that task.
However, timeblocking isn't for everyone, every day. Sometimes, your day might be really changeable for reasons outside of your control. Or you might find that it just doesn't work for you or your business.
My 2024 Business Planner has a double-page spread for each week. One page allows you to time block, whilst the other page allows you to write a to-do list or task list.
How you use the planner is up to you, and I encourage you to play around with it and see what works for you.

🤞🏻 this post goes out because I've had an absolute 'mare with my content scheduling app this past week! If you need a reason to work on your SEO, then this alone is enough 😬
SEO - it's an acronym, so immediately people think "woo techy stuff" and this primes people to feel confused and overwhelmed.
There is definitely a technical side to SEO. "Technical SEO" is essentially ensuring your website complies with search engine best practices. These things can help search engines to crawl, index and rank a website page.
Technical issues on your website (e.g. broken links, duplicate content, not being mobile-friendly) can also affect the user experience of your website. This can affect your website's rankings and your chances of securing sales or enquiries through your website.
Depending on your website CMS and how it's been built, technical issues are usually fairly easy to find and fix manually. If you don't use an SEO app such as SE Ranking, Moz or SEMrush, simply going through your website as a user would and checking for problems can be a good place to start.
Secondly, a website that is performing well in terms of technical SEO won't necessarily be on that all-important first page of search engine results. This is where helpful content comes in.
Producing helpful content (usually - but not exclusively - in the form of blogs) that answers people's questions, informs, educates or entertains, is crucial to getting your website found in the search engines. This side of SEO does not require huge technical expertise and in my experience is usually what makes the biggest difference.

As much as I am looking forward to having a break over Christmas, I always like to be prepared for the New Year.

🌟 Keywords in SEO Descriptions 🌟
The last post in our social media series on Google ranking factors is about SEO Descriptions!
Just like your SEO Titles (see earlier post) your SEO Descriptions should contain keywords.
Generally around 150 characters, SEO Descriptions are found below the SEO Titles in the search results. In Google Search, the SEO Descriptions are usually in small grey text.

🌟 Do Your URLs Include Keywords? 🌟
A URL - or uniform resource locator - is basically the address of a specific website page. Every page on your website will have a URL.
Including relevant keywords in your URLs can help your SEO.
❌ But - please don't go around changing your URLs and shoving keywords in left right and centre! ❌
Changing your website URLs can cause issues if redirects are not put in. This can lead visitors to what's called an "Error 404: Page Not Found" if they click on a link that still uses the old URL, and that's bad for your SEO and your website engagement.
This can affect, for example, old social media content, printed adverts, QR codes, backlinks, etc.
9 times out of 10, we strongly advise against changing any website URLs, even if they are not ideal.
However, you can take the opportunity when building a brand new website or website page to ensure your URLs make sense and include keywords from the start.

🌟 Structured Data 🌟
Schema markups or structured data can be used to indicate important information to Google. This is one way to get your website included in enhanced organic listings or featured snippets in Google Search.
Featured snippets are commonly found at the very top of the Google Search results (immediately below the Ads if these are present).
They can come in the form of small text paragraphs, dictionary definitions, numbers or statistics, lists, tables , instructions and more. Getting your website listed as a featured snippet is tricky, but it can massively boost your website traffic.
Using headings, bullet points, numbered lists, instructions, definitions and stats in your website content can all increase the chance of getting into a featured snippet.
🌟 Website Security 🌟
An SSL certificate is now recommended for all websites. However, it's especially important for those that collect sensitive information or process payments.
Google generally rewards websites with an up-to-date SSL certificate with better rankings than those without one.
