Maritime Transport saw its pre-tax profit nearly halve in 2023 as the company faced a return to normal trading conditions post-pandemic and a series of supply chain challenges, according to its latest financial report.
The Felixstowe-based logistics firm reported a significant drop in revenue, down £78 million to £404 million (compared to £482 million in 2022) for the year ending 27 December 2023. Pre-tax profit also plummeted to £20.7 million, a sharp decline from £40.1 million in the previous year.

🚛 French logistics giant DESLOG has made its first UK acquisition by purchasing County Durham-based supply chain specialist NFS360 Connect. This strategic move aims to bolster DESLOG's ability to navigate post-Brexit customs challenges and expand its UK presence.
NFS360 Connect, founded in 1978 and headquartered in Peterlee, operates with 34 trucks, 48 trailers, and over 90 staff across four depots. The company reported £11.2 million in revenue for the year ending September 2023.
Under DESLOG’s ownership, NFS360 will continue to be led by MD Michael Banks, with plans to accelerate growth and enhance service offerings.

🚚 Preston-based H Parkinson Haulage has entered administration this week, with FRP Advisory now handling its affairs. The company, with a national licence for 85 HGVs and 160 trailers, operates from six bases across the Northwest and Wales.
In its latest accounts, H Parkinson reported revenues of £16.3m for the year ending 30 June 2023, and bounced back to a pre-tax profit of £69,000 after a loss in 2022. Despite industry challenges, the company noted it maintained its work by raising rates to offset rising costs.
🚨 An investigation is underway after concrete was thrown off the M5, damaging a van's roof.
The incident occurred on 17 July at around 05:30 BST near junction 23 for Dunball. Fortunately, no one was injured.
Avon and Somerset Police are seeking information or dashcam footage from anyone who may have seen suspicious activity on the bridge or was driving along the M5 or A39 at the time.
PC Tom Curry stated, "This was a really nasty incident, and it’s very lucky nobody was seriously injured or worse."

🚨 Teen Arsonist Causes £750k Damage to Peterborough Business 🚨
Kian Setchfield, 19, admitted to starting a fire at Hotpoint in Fletton when he was 15, causing over £750,000 in damage.
Emergency services responded on 29 August 2019, initially estimating £2 million in damage to 48 trailers. Five teens were arrested, leading to a complex investigation. Setchfield and Craig Allpress, 23, were charged in 2021.
Setchfield received an 18-month community order, including a Rehabilitation Activity and Thinking Skills Programme. Allpress got a 12-month conditional discharge, and Nathan Vinden, 24, will be sentenced on 1 August.
Detective Sergeant Louis Scott noted the significant impact on the business and hopes Setchfield has learned from his mistakes.
