This week we attended the Borough of Culture launch event. Wirral has been selected as the Borough of Culture for 2024 and we got a sneak peek at the upcoming exhibitions and events.
We're proud to contribute to the cultural landscape of Wirral and bring you some truly immersive projects and events towards the end of the year, in collaboration with Wirral Council and local artists. It was really great to catch up with our cultural partners across the borough.

Our installation for 2024 is a multi-sensory interaction between one of the city's most historical landmarks, fusing cutting-edge immersive technology and Chinese folklore.
We will be doing 3 nights of projections at the @bombedoutchurchliverpool, working with local artist Judith Herring and the community engagement team to create a mesmerising community art installation in the gardens of St Luke's Church.
As part of our ongoing commitment to help fight climate change, we have partnered up with the @themerseyforest_official, who will be running workshops over the 3 days and giving away 500 trees per day! 🍃

Today we've been collaborating with the Virtual Engineering Centre in Daresbury.
A while back we approached them with our concept of gesture-controlled media, & with some good old-fashioned teamwork, the vision has become a reality.
We saw the demo for the first time earlier and were SUPER impressed. It perfectly highlights the potential of gesture-controlled computer vision technology 🙌🍕 – making a pizza with just gestures.
Good use of the tech if you ask us...
This innovative project was supported by LCR4.0 HOLISTIC, a pioneering initiative funded by the European Regional Development Fund, aimed at fostering a robust digital supply chain ecosystem across the Liverpool City Region.
With a focus on enhancing connectivity, offering intensive assistance, and driving business growth, LCR4.0 HOLISTIC has been instrumental in helping businesses like ours navigate industry challenges.

We've been hosting another talented work experience student this week, Jacob!
Here's how we brought his amazing illustrated skull to life through animation.
1️⃣ First things first, we exported his skull character design from Procreate into an Adobe animation ready format called PSD.
2️⃣ We've been teaching him how to use Photoshop to layer each section of the skull. This is a very important step where precision is key!
3️⃣ The next step? Diving into Adobe After Effects, to stitch together a frame-by-frame image sequence of the fire called a sprite animation. This brings a bit of heat to the video 🔥
4️⃣ And to wrap it all up, Jacob learned about lighting and 3D layers, adding depth and detail to make his skull pop off the screen.

Following an amazing discussion with the folks at the Eureka! Science + Discovery Centre (https://bit.ly/43MbSdz), I'm excited to share that my final project for the MA in Immersive Media, which I am currently pursuing at LJMU, will be showcased as a temporary exhibit there!
This project, the pinnacle of my academic journey, aims to ignite innovation and foster a passion for discovery. I'm excited to see the impact it will have on all those who visit.

At Wirral MakeFest, we joined a remarkable community of creators in the prestigious Williamson Gallery.
There, we showcased a truly innovative project - our gesture-responsive cafe menu.
One swift movement 🖐 - that's all it takes.
Instantly, visitors were enthralled, diving headfirst into our menu with nothing more than a wave of their hand.
This ease of navigation is not just convenient; it's downright fun. It was a joy to see the delight on their faces.
The menu was beamed onto chalkboards using cutting-edge projection mapping. This technique rendered our one-of-a-kind chalk-style interface in vibrant, engaging detail.
But we didn't stop there...
Photo frames animated with life and movement showcased our larger vision - an immersive cafe experience. We believe in a setting that isn't just a physical location but a portal to the wider world and beyond.
A simple cafe can transport you anywhere - from a sunny beach to the farthest reaches of space. This concept left many visitors intrigued and excited about the possibilities of mixed reality.
We're indebted to each visitor who stopped by, immersing themselves in our imaginative presentation.
Your curiosity and enthusiasm are what drive us to push the boundaries of what's possible.

Operation: Light Fixture BACK on a crane boat 💡
With #Eurovision2023 now done, we had to end our light show here in Birkenhead. With the help from Adlib, Carmet Tug Company, Peel Ports and Stena Line UKIE, we uninstalled the light fixture and watched it sail home 🛥️ It now joins its friends Adlib
Even better, this video was edited by Katie, who is on work experience from Wirral Metropolitan College! She’s learned how to use the Canon C100 to capture cinematic footage, and learned new techniques in Premiere Pro. Thanks Katie, this is amazing!
