Voices of the Ancestors - The Podcast
Holly and Susan take a gentle stroll with lovers of Georgian polyphonic songs (the one in the Caucasus mountains). Pausing with inspiring teachers to admire the view of the past and future of this deeply rooted aural tradition. In Georgia’s traditionally

patriarchal society the podcast takes time to admire the perspective of folklore from a female viewpoint. The hosts are based in the UK whilst the list of guests spreads across the globe, wherever folks have been smitten by the harmonies of Georgia.

"Georgia is facing a difficult time and is in a difficult situation."

This is part of the introduction given for The Chamgeliani Sisters and Levan Bitarov's concert in Belgium last week.

Holly and I wish to acknowledge the difficult times in Georgia.

The concert introduction went on :-

"To support, love and stand by Georgians, we must know and understand their culture and values."

For those outside of Georgia (the country), listening to the podcast is one way to get to know aspects of Georgia. We feel the need to draw attention to other sources of information. Please sign up to our latest newsletter http://eepurl.com/hhgoOf for more.

Are you Hungry for More Stories?
We are waiting until the 'pot is full' with donations from our gorgeous supporters before embarking on the next episode.

Could you help it fill up quicker?

The flow of energy in Georgia is very spontaneous. The more patrons we have, the more we can follow the flow and find the stories.
Would it take us to Pankisi, with a translator, to follow up with the Pankisi ensemble who toured Europe and came to Womad this summer?
Or would we spend time with Eka from Satanao and hear their story of Kakhetian 'twiddles' amongst the vineyards?
Support us on patreon https://www.patreon.com/voicesoftheancestors or kofi https://ko-fi.com/voicesoftheancestors to help us uncover the next story as soon as possible.

The Journey of Georgian Songs: A Podcast and a Theatre show ქართულ სიმღერათა მოგზაურობა

A new British-Georgian collaboration/ახალი ბრიტანულ-ქართული თანამშრომლობა

The Podcast- Launching October 2020 Holly and Susan take a gentle stroll with lovers of Georgian polyphonic songs (the one in the Caucasus mountains). Pausing with inspiring teachers to admire the view of the past and future of this deeply rooted aural tradition. In Georgia’s traditionally patriarchal society the podcast takes time to admire the perspective of folklore from a female viewpoint. The hosts are based in the UK whilst the list of guests spreads across the globe, wherever folks have been smitten by the harmonies of Georgia.

The Theatre Show Combining folk song, immersive feasting and intimate storytelling, this piece tells the story of ethnomusicologist Edisher Garaqanidze and his son Gigi, from the unique perspective of the women in their lives.

Taking influence from 99 Georgian Songs, the reference book of Georgian music that Edisher began before his untimely death, the piece will use the narrative arc of the polyphonic songs to tell this complex and serendipitous story.
