Its like looking at a lake. When it's calm you can see the reflection of the moon clearly in the water.

Throw a pebble in and ripples are created. Now the image of the moon is distorted.

Its similar with our thoughts. The less thoughts we have and practise becoming still the more clearer our mind becomes and we can start thinking and seeing things more clearly.
