THE 10th INTERNATIONAL AUDIO DRAMA FESTIVAL

We have something very special to celebrate this year – It’s our 10th Festival and it is going to be more popular than ever!

Once again we are back in Canterbury – at the Cathedral Lodge Community Studio, from the 25 – 29th March 2024. Our title this year is – ‘The Accomplishment of Many Years’.

We have had over 215 submissions from 32 countries in 32 languages – from Iran to Denmark, Georgia to Nigeria – an increase of over 100% from last year – in the only outward looking Audio Drama in the UK. From this phenomenal response we have picked nearly 50 plays for both the Long Form and short form category.

This is also a hybrid festival – where you can either join actual listening sessions with your fellow enthusiasts or listen to the plays online. Tickets available here

We have exciting events planned – both in Canterbury and at the Soho Theatre, London where – alongside the Writers Guild – we will be celebrating not only our 10th Anniversary but the 100th Anniversary of the very first radio play to be broadcast! There will be online discussions, radio extracts to be enjoyed - and Awards given for Long and Short Form – as well as the Deacon prize for a young producer. Last year Tom Watt gave out the awards – who will it be this year?

It will be a festival to celebrate all that we have achieved in the last 10 years and look to the future – why not come and join us!

Latest review - we are going Global

I'm listening to Rainbow Dads and can relate to it thoroughly being a Gay Dad myself. I came out 7 years ago To my wife and in instalments to the rest of my family and up until last year to my 10year old son. Still a lot going on ... and these conversations are helping knowing I'm not the only alien on this planet.

I love the conversations and they are serving their purpose . I'm a life coach and a Psychodrama trainer and it's my dream to do something similar in India one day....I need to cover my own journey first and I'm grateful to your efforts and everyone's courage.

Another lovely review

When my father died in 1988, I inherited his copy of ‘The Joy of Gay Sex’ by Dr Charles Silverstein and Edmund White. The ‘Rainbow Dads’ podcasts is a sensitive series of conversations that would have spoken directly to his situation, but he was of the pre-internet generation who had to find their own way. “It was just a deep feeling which I had inside of me which became really really powerful” Ahnet explains. He is one of the 5 gay or bisexual dads who talk frankly in this series of revealing podcasts about the “secret places” where q***r sexuality often resides. Nicholas McInerny – our enthusiastic and genial host encourages each of them as they describe how they found “the courage to step out of family and social networks to reclaim my identity” in the process of coming out. We hear about their internalised messages of guilt and shame, in a context of different social, cultural and faith backgrounds. Importantly they also acknowledge the hurt caused. They each grapple with the complexities of marriage, their unconscious drives and parenthood. I warmed to these men as they confessed to many, “Oh s**t! Moments” in the interplay between self, partner, children and community in order to know as David puts it, “that you are ok, that your life is valid.” Ultimately these are stories about being human, finding healing and learning to love. Their words resonate deeply with me and my own late coming out, but also shed light on my father’s internal conflicts that led to his own declaration of those words, “I’m gay.”
