Friday night's vigils around the UK honoured Brianna G**y, the 16-year-old transgender girl who was tragically stabbed to death in Warrington, Cheshire last Saturday. Hundreds gathered in Culcheth Village Green, with many wearing "Rest in power Brianna G**y" t-shirts and singing Over The Rainbow. Mayor of Greater Manchester Andy Burnham and his daughter attended the vigil, as a sign of support for young trans people everywhere.

Former Newcastle United footballer Christian Atsu has been found dead under the rubble of an earthquake-stricken building in Turkey, which has caused the death of over 45,000 people. His agent, Nana Sechere, confirmed the news and asked people to respect the family's privacy while they make the necessary arrangements.
Atsu had previously been signed to Premier League clubs including Chelsea, Bournemouth, Everton and Newcastle.

Three people have been arrested following a violent demonstration outside the Suites Hotel in Knowsley, where a police van was set on fire and missiles were thrown at officers. The hotel is housing asylum seekers and was the site of a confrontation between protesters and counter-protesters. Eyewitnesses described the scene as "like a war zone" with far-right protesters being "very violent." The police presence in the area has been increased and those involved are being investigated.

President Biden ordered the shootdown of a small, unmanned, high-altitude object flying off the coast of Alaska, posing a "reasonable threat" to civilian aviation. The object's origin and purpose remain unknown, though it's not believed to have the maneuverability of the Chinese balloon destroyed last week. Two fighter jets approached the object and determined there was no one on board, before being shot down with a sidewinder missile. Debris is being recovered and analyzed, while the airspace above the area has been closed.

The official logo for King Charles III's coronation has been unveiled by Buckingham Palace. The design was created by Sir Jony Ive, a prominent designer who is known for his work at Apple. The logo features a floral design that symbolizes the "optimism of spring" and reflects King Charles's love of nature. The logo includes a rose, a thistle, a daffodil, and a shamrock, emblems from across the UK. The coronation will take place on May 6th at Westminster Abbey and will include a carriage procession and traditional appearances on the Buckingham Palace balcony. There will also be a music concert and light show at Windsor Castle on May 7th, with 10,000 tickets being offered to the public through a ballot. An extra bank holiday has been declared for May 8th to celebrate the work of volunteers.

Nine similar incidents of cars being stripped of parts have been reported in the Digbeth area of Birmingham in January alone. A BBC investigation has found that three motorists had their cars stripped by thieves last year, all in the same car park. A number of drivers have reported similar stories on social media, with the cars targeted being popular, small models. West Midlands Police have increased patrols and are working with cadets to offer crime prevention advice.

UK households are unlikely to receive extra support with energy bills, despite Chancellor Jeremy Hunt facing pressure to offer help for people to cope with high gas and electricity costs. The typical household bill is set to rise from £2,500 to £3,000 a year. A £400 discount applied to most households' energy bills from October is also due to end at the beginning of April. Some groups, including households on means-tested benefits, pensioners, and some people on disability benefits, will receive extra cash payments to help with energy costs.

Firefighters' strike action put on hold as union members consider increased pay offer UK firefighters have temporarily put their strike action on hold while they consider a revised pay offer that includes a 7% pay rise backdated to July 2022 and another 5% from July 2023. The Fire Brigades Union (FBU) will now ballot its members on the deal. Over 80% of union members who voted in a December 2022 ballot backed strike action, which would have been the first UK-wide fire strikes over pay since 2003. The FBU says its members have experienced a 12% drop in real-terms earnings since 2010.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has traveled to Brussels to attend a summit of EU leaders and address the European Parliament, on his second trip abroad since last February's invasion. He has urged the leaders of France, Germany and the UK to provide fighter jets for the war against Russia and has praised European unity, stating that the sooner Ukraine receives heavy, long-range weapons and modern planes, "the quicker this Russian aggression will end". President Macron and Chancellor Scholz have echoed the sentiment, saying that "Russia must not win this war". The Russian embassy in London has warned the UK against supplying fighter jets, while Downing Street said UK Defence Secretary Ben Wallace is investigating potential aircraft offerings.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex will be questioned as part of a US defamation case brought by Meghan Markle's half-sister Samantha Markle, who is suing Meghan for "defamation and injurious falsehoods" after Meghan's interview with Oprah Winfrey in 2021. A motion brought by Meghan to stop depositions was dismissed by a Florida judge. Samantha Markle claims that Meghan made "demonstrably false and malicious statements" to a worldwide audience during the interview, which subjected her to "humiliation, shame and hatred on a worldwide scale". The defamation case is part of the aftermath of Prince Harry's memoir Spare and the couple's Netflix series.

The Royal Mail has revealed the minimalist design of King Charles III that will appear on UK stamps starting April 4. The unadorned image, without any crown or decoration, was approved by the King himself and aims to provide continuity with the classic profile of Queen Elizabeth II. The new stamps will be used concurrently with those of Queen Elizabeth II until the old stock runs out. King Charles becomes the seventh monarch to appear on UK stamps, with Queen Victoria being the first in 1840.

UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak is expected to announce a cabinet reshuffle and a reorganization of some government departments on Tuesday, following the sacking of the party chairman Nadhim Zahawi. Trade Minister Greg Hands is expected to take over the role of party chairman, and Business Secretary Grant Shapps is not expected to take the role. The Department for Business, Energy, and Industrial Strategy may also be broken up, with more focus on securing the UK's energy future. The Culture Secretary Michelle Donelan is also expected to take maternity leave and her department may face changes. Number 10 has not commented on the rumors.

"Deadly 7.8 magnitude earthquake hits Turkey and Syria, thousands killed and injured" Rescue workers race against time to find survivors of a powerful earthquake that struck Turkey and Syria, killing over 4,800 and injuring over 15,000. The toll is expected to rise as more victims are found and heavy rain and snow are hampering rescue efforts. The earthquake was felt as far as Cyprus, Lebanon and Israel, and countries around the world are sending support to help the rescue efforts. The EU and UK have sent search and rescue teams, while Israel, France, Germany, the US and Russia have also pledged to help.
