Happy 100th birthday to this queen! Joyce Wagner (Jetka Witkowski) is a Holocaust survivor, the only survivor of 9 brothers and sisters, her parents and grandparents.
Originally from Radziejow, Poland, she was 18 at the start of WWll. Joyce spent 2 horrific years in Auschwitz-Birkenau and also survived the death march. She met her late husband Michael in Bergen-Belson DP camp and after marrying, they had their first child, a son Harold, in the DP camp. They were able to come to the US in 1949 where Joyce and Michael became successful entrepreneurs in the grocery business after settling in Milwaukee. They went on to have two more children, daughters Gilda and Sally.
Today she turns 100 years old! Her entire family got together this weekend in Chicago to celebrate Joyce and to remind ourselves that we are living proof of Hitler’s failure!

Nora Tausz Ronai, who started swimming competitively at age 69, has become an inspiration to athletes young and old for more than her physical accomplishments.
The Jewish community of the Cayman Islands emerged in the 1970’s. Despite its predominantly Protestant population, the small Jewish community of the Cayman Islands grew, but there was no synagogue to attend.
George Walton, a native of Cayman Brac, traveled the world with his wife, Lynn, an Ashkenazi Jew from Brooklyn. After retirement, the two returned to the small island of Cayman Brac and opened a bed and breakfast. George was eager for his wife to have a spiritual home on the island, so in 2002, he built her a synagogue in their garden.
Temple Beth Shalom is a beautiful and humble synagogue with mahogany doors and a domed ceiling, adorned with 12 lanterns, representing the 12 tribes. Over time, the couple have collected Jewish artifacts from all over the world for its decor.
The charming synagogue that was once built as a present for a wife is now a destination for Jews who wish to travel to the Cayman Islands.

Dov Forman is Lily’s great-grandson. At the age of sixteen he was separated from her during the Covid pandemic for the first time, and became determined to record her story for posterity.

Monday Memories: Bloom's restaurant was a kosher Jewish deli restaurant in London. Until its last branch closed in summer 2010, it was the longest-standing kosher restaurant in England, and was well-known beyond the Jewish community. Blooms was under the supervision of the London Beth Din. The original restaurant, in Brick Lane, London, was established by the eponymous Morris Bloom in 1920. Morris Bloom was a Lithuanian immigrant. His son Sidney continued to run the family business, and in the early 1930s, the restaurant moved to Old Montague Street. In 1952, the restaurant moved to Whitechapel High Street, and subsequently, a second restaurant was opened in Golders Green. The East End restaurant closed in 1996, due to the changing nature of the neighbourhood. For many years the Bloom's brand was maintained by the surviving restaurant in Golders Green in north west London. It was renovated in summer 2007, and served traditional Ashkenazi-style Jewish cuisine (as opposed to many other Kosher restaurants in London which are more influenced by Israeli-style food). A new Bloom's restaurant opened in Edgware in 2007, but has now closed. Shortly thereafter, the final Bloom's outlet, the Golders Green restaurant, also closed its doors, in summer 2010. This image seems very apt with UK Commonwealth and beyond celebrating the Queens Platinum Jubilee shortly leading up to the special extended bank holiday weekend from Thursday 2 to Sunday 5 June 2022.
