Yesterday I was lucky enough to meet the amazing team over at Paperworks in Leeds.

I was completely blown away by the value that the team here are adding to the UK care industry.

The charity enhances work skills and wellbeing for adults with learning and physical disabilities, autism and mental health needs, who they call Trainees.

Thank you to Jo Forsey and Rachel for giving me a guided tour and I’m really excited to get down to work and help grow your team ☺️📈

Too many start up care companies are panicking that they can’t hire staff.

This leads to:

1. Becoming reliant on agency staff.
2. Panic hiring.
3. Wasting too much money on adverting that doesn’t get results.

If you follow my top 3 tips in this video, I guarantee that you’ll never struggle as a start up care company 📈

21/03/2024

📈 What is your advertising cost per hire for hiring Care Assistant’s and Support Workers?

👉 Cost per hire is calculated by the amount of money you spend on advertising against how how many people you have hired AND have STARTED to work for you.

E.g. if you spent £1000 in February and you hired 5 staff, your cost per hire = £200.00

❌ Indeed ❌

It needs to be made clear to ALL care organisations that Indeed is there to:

✅ Show people your job adverts.
✅ Make it easy for people to apply to work for you.
✅ Be a user friendly experience
✅ Help care companies to be able to quickly contact people who’ve applied for jobs.
✅ Search and headhunt people.
✅ Help with branding your care company with images and videos.

It is NOT a platform that will:

❌ Call candidates for you.
❌ Make sure people start working on rota for you.

👉 More and more care companies are struggling to hire and retain care staff in the current social and economic climate.

SO STOP BLAMING OTHERS FOR YOUR RECRUITMENT PROBLEMS 🤬

1️⃣ CALL candidates who’ve applied - you do NOT need to arrange a call.

2️⃣ Leave a VOICEMAIL if the person doesn’t answer.

3️⃣ Send a templated EMAIL on Indeed.

4️⃣ Send a TEXT message saying you’ve called.

5️⃣ The candidate with either call you back or message you back at a more convenient time to speak.

6️⃣ 10 minute phone screen.

7️⃣ Book in a face to face interview.

8️⃣ You should be hiring 80% + of people who attend your face to face interviews.

9️⃣ Grow and amazing, happy workforce.

🔟 Repeat the above steps daily.

You can do it!!! 🚀

Thank you guys.

Another busy day ahead. Today I’m in Cheshire performing a Recruitment and Retention Health check for a care provider who supports both children and adults with Autism, learning disabilities and/or complex needs.

Myself and the Recruitment Manager have been messaging for a month or so and after a few phone calls it was clear that I can offer support and guidance with the recruitment and retention strategy.

Looking forward to this 📈

Benefits of a recruitment healthcheck:

✅ Find out what’s working well.
✅ Find out what needs to change and evolve
✅ Check how your Indeed page is performing and how it can be improved.
✅ Find out your cost per hire.
✅ Learn how to improve your processes such as advertising jobs.
✅ Master the phone screen.
✅ Perfect the invite to interviews.
✅ Reduce no shows to interview.
✅ Improve your offer management.
✅ Learn how to stay on top of stats and how to set realistic KPI’s.

I have 4 more dates available this year to do health checks, so get in touch with me so you don’t miss out.

Retention can often be overlooked.

Why hire 4 staff a month to lose 4 staff the next month.

It makes no business sense.

Here’s 5 retention tips that will guarantee you retain more of your care staff.

**Disclaimer** doing these 5 points once will NOT guarentee an increase in retention rates - you HAVE to be doing these points consistently every week.

Good luck!

Watch my ‘Top 5 tips on using Indeed to hire Care Assistants’ below.

I have managed care companies Indeed pages for over 3 years now.

What are the benefits of this?

1. Companies spend on average 4 hours a day on Indeed. What would getting 20 hours a week back mean to the quality of care your team provides?

2. Your Registered Manager/s can spend more time on doing what they want to do - being a Registered Manager - not an administrator or recruiter.

3. You can focus more on delivering excellent care to clients.

4. You have someone who knows how to get more people applying.

5. More people applying means more interviews.

6. More interviews means more hires.

7. More hires means you’re able to deliver better care.

8. More hires means you can remove all of your agency spend.

9. Removing agency spend means you can save £10,000 - £100,000’s every year.

10. You can scale the company and grow your team.

11. You will retain more staff as they’re not burnt out.

12. Better staff satisfaction = better CQQ results.

The list is endless.

Yesterday we celebrated our 2 year wedding anniversary.

My wife now works for me part time which has given me a LOT of time to really focus on my Client needs a lot more, such as;

- Indeed algorithms and analytics
- Market research
- Indeed budgets
- Time to hire
- Communication to people who apply.

Having this time back, allows my Clients to:

- Increase applications
- Beat their competition
- Spend lees time on admin
- Focus more on face to face interviews.

It’s scary having someone on the payroll, even if it’s the closest person to you. But it’s a good sign of growth and if I’m growing, my Clients are growing with me 📈

03/10/2023

I’m away for 2 weeks in Palma Nova, Majorca.

During this time I’ll be;

1. Walking a lot
2. Laying on a beach
3. Drinking Pina Colada’s
4. Swimming
5. Sleeping
6. Reading
7. Staying away from emails.

One thing I’m aiming to stay on top of is fitness.

I’m very happy where my business is at, but it’s 3.5 years now and I have completely neglected my health and fitness.

I’ve listened to a lot of podcasts with people saying that as soon as you improve your health, your business and work life will improve.

Do you agree with that?

Anyway, for 2 weeks I’ll still be sharing my recruitment and retention knowledge which will help you and your teams.

⬇️ Here’s a good one for you ⬇️

👉Ask your internal teams to write down (individually) what they’re looking for in care staff.

Ask them to write down 10 traits that they’re looking for when they interview a person face to face.

Then, read over what has been written down.

Then, all get together for 1 hour and go over what people are looking for.

Is is IMPERATIVE that people do this alone.

Why? So you can see if you as a collective company are all looking for the same things in candidates.

You’d be surprised how many staff say that it’s non negotiable that candidates must have experience and then others say that’s not needed.

1 hour this week.

That’s all it takes.

Then, just see how much your processes will have improved.

Good luck!

Weekend care recruitment tip.

- Remember to respond to EVERY application you receive on Indeed.

The employer assist feature is NO longer available, meaning that automatic rejection emails are no longer sent.

If you DON’T reply to everyone on Indeed, this will;

- Ruin your company reputation as you’ll be know as a company who doesn’t even acknowledge applicants.

- Go against your algorithm on Indeed as you’ll be classified as an unresponsive employer.

- Not replying to candidates isn’t morally the right thing to do and goes against why we all started working in care in the first place.

If you need more advice on how to manage your applications on Indeed, drop me a message or email me anytime at [email protected]

I’m working on a VERY exciting new project with Simon Crowther.

This will forever change how care recruitment is trained and run by internal teams.

No longer will start ups, small, medium or large care companies struggle to hire permanent care staff.

It’s gone on for too long now and it’s winding us up.

People NEED amazing care and care providers NEED amazing, permanent care staff.

This problem is going to be fixed, forever.

You’ll hear more in the next few months.

Looking forward to sharing this with everyone.

Have a lovely weekend.

Back to the grind for me.

🚀 Watch the video below to hear about my August 2023 care recruitment success story 📈

Client: Care Homes, North West of England.

Issues: 60% agency staff

Looking for: Full removal of agency staff, increase morale, increase retention, get full occupancy levels.

✅ Step 1 - full day at the location to perform a full audit looking at culture, Indeed spend, ROI, KPI’s, Phone inteviews, face to face interviews, offer management, onboarding and retention methods.

✅ Present feedback to Operation Manager and Owner.

✅ Take over full recruitment. I phone candiates, I book them in for F2F interview and then teach the internal team how to do everything else.

📈 3 week stats;

- 20 F2F interviews booked
- 17 people attended (85%)
- 11 people offered a role
- 8 people booked on training

👉 Indeed cost = £1000.00

👉 Cost per hire = £125.00

👉 Cost of removing agency staff - £10,000’s per year

❤️We’re lucky we have so many good people on the UK who want to work as permanent care staff 🥰

The guys at Village Gym giving us all some Monday motivation today 📈

A few tips for you and your internal recruitment team/s for Monday mornings:

1. You should be walking into a whole load of applications from over the weekend. DON’T let this overwhelm you.

2. Respond to ALL applications, even if they’re not suitable. This will help your Indeed algorithm, get you in a routine and most importantly - people took the time to apply for you, do the right thing and get back to them.

3. Ensure you CALL all candiates who are awaiting references and DBS checks to come back. They will forget about you if not and uoir hard work has gone to waste.

4. Chase up references. You should NEVER be waiting more than a week to receive a reference back.

5. Speak with your Care Managers or whoever was on call over the weekend and thank any staff that went above and beyond. This gets overlooked way too much.

6. Remember to be unbelievably positive to everyone you come into contact with today. Positively breeds positivity and your mental well-being will improve significantly.

I hope this helps you and your team.

Tough Mudder 2023 completed yesterday.

A really great experience.

Body in pieces today.

Worth every minute.

Few comparisons between this and care recruitment that I was thinking about whilst doing the course…

1. Team work - it’s impossible to complete some of the challenges by yourself on this course. Working as a team will always get you to your final destination.

2. Resilience - I hate heights and was tempted to walk around 2 of the climbing challenges. The fear is usually in your head isn’t it? So I got over myself, took my time and stuck to the task in front of me.

3. Muddy as hell - personal care. Well, because, you know…

4. Confidence - a team member of ours was pretty much scared of 90% + of the challenges. So we took turns to help her out, give her the words she needed to hear and keep her going.

So many hobbies and tasks we do can be compared to have successful care recruitment and retention.

I would highly reccomend people to do it next year if you get the chance!

Another Friday morning…

✅ Large tea
✅ Fruit toast
✅ Water

9am-11am - send ‘thank you’ emails to all people who’ve applied on Indeed so internal teams are ready to call candiates up and arrange F2F interviews.

11am-1pm - post new jobs for all clients ready for the weekend traffic.

1-3pm - call up candiates and arrange face to face interviews for bespoke clients.

3pm-6pm - as hoc duties and consultancy.

6pm-7:30pm - Swim and gym

👉 Saturday - recording video content for an exciting new project.

👉 Sunday - ‘Tough Mudder’ which I’m both excited and petrified about! I did the Sydney one in 2010, back when I was 3 stone lighter and had much better fitness levels … so let’s see how this one goes 🫨💪🏃‍♂️

Hope everyone has a great day and you smash your recruitment and retention 🔥

Ps if you’ve recently done Tough Mudder, send me a message with some form of motivation 🥰

Watch the below video if you and your team need tips on;

👉 Increasing interview availability each week.
👉 Giving more options to candiates for interview dates.
👉 Speeding uo your time to hire.
👉 Hiring more staff at a speedy rate.

I hope this helps you and your team.
