🏆I WON AN AWARD!🏆

I was reminded of something last weekend - it’s good to celebrate our successes. 🎆

& last month I won an AWARD!

You might not have heard about this, I’ve been so head down busy with a new project and some personal stuff that it took the wonderful to acknowledge the achievement & make me look up and take notice.

In a similar way to Vic, I’m not trained in journalism, I didn’t take journalism at uni, but I just love to write!
So to be given an award, at an industry event, for doing just that is amazing. 💖💖💖

In true ‘award winner’ style I want to say a huge thank you to 3 women who have been an amazing source of inspiration and support to me, and from Girl About (btw more about that coming soon!!) and Angela from for (among so many other things) introducing me to the awesome networking event that is the Media Getaway.

The winning article was a pleasure to put together for Richard Hammond’s magazine, highlighting the fabulous cafes and restaurants in Leeds that are doing their bit towards sustainability. 🌱I’m so grateful to be able to write these kinds of pieces and to get them out to the world. 💚

✋I pledge to do better at celebrating success, no matter how busy or stressy I am!

Fab dog-related find!

The Pet Lodge Superstore on Tong Road with Lil & Flo’s Pet Cafe on Oldfield Lane💖🐾💖

These guys solved a problem for me - my dogs are short haired, so they don’t need much in the way of grooming, but they still need a good bath every now & again! I don’t want to spend loads just getting them bathed at the groomers, but I get really hacked off with all the mess when I wash them at home 😫

But Taa-daaah….. Upstairs at the Pet Lodge Superstore is a DIY grooming room, fully equipped with everything you need to wash & dry your pooch yourself, from shampoo to dryers, it’s awesome and for just £10 it saves all that mess at home! It’s completely secure with doors & safety gates so even the nervous pooches can feel secure. It’s a game changer.
Pop down the road to the cafe afterwards to relax & get some supplies & you’re all set.

I was really lucky that Flo (of Lil & Flo’s Pet Cafe) was on hand to show me the ropes too!

Trumans face was a picture, he hates getting a wash - is anyone else’s dog like that?

Little Italy, Outlane Huddersfield.

We had the most amazing time earlier this week at Little Italy, Outlane in Huddersfield.

It was a strange one for me, as there was nothing vegan on the menu 😳

Don’t Panic!

Chef Guiseppe assured me that he would make me some amazing vegan food - and he wasn’t wrong!

First things first though, Little Italy is really easy to get to, just off the motorway in Outlane, Huddersfield, plenty of parking & a lovely outdoor seating area (probably better to wait for summer ! 😆) Give them a follow to see what they’ve got going on for Valentines, Easter etc.

Back to the food….
We both enjoyed cute little tofu with aubergine hors d’oeuvre 🥰

My starter was pesto falafel style ‘meat’balls 💚

My main course - home made pasta in a squash sauce - this was absolutely dreamy 💕

Dessert - A light and fluffy lemon sponge, I had to take half home as I just couldn’t eat it all!! Delicious!

For the non-vegans, Mark loved the calamari starter (although it was a HUGE portion, so he didn’t quite finish it). He enjoyed the homemade pasta ravioli too, he’d definitely order that again!

The team chose his dessert for him, they went with the classic cannoli - he loved it 💕💖💕

We both had to be rolled out to the car 😆😆😆

Would I recommend a visit? Yes! (vegans, call ahead to let them know)
Any other advice? Wear an elastic waist, you’ll want to finish everything!

Also known as the National Monument Against Violence & Aggression, strangely beautiful, it’s so sad that this has to exist all - it carries a harrowing message 💔

Kapow Coffee!

Big shout out to Kapow Coffee for this gorgeous slice of vegan deliciousness 🩷

I (mint tea & fruit crumble) had a lovely catch up with (coffee & pastel de nata)

The arcade is super cute & the shop is too!

🚆Leeds Train Station🚆

I know it’s been a bit painful and ugly around the station and City Square lately, but I had a look through the railings this morning and you can really get a sense of what it’s going to be like when it’s finished. Exciting times!! 🤩🤩🤩

🍹Las Iguanas🦎
Mack loves Mexican food so we took him to Las Iguanas for tea (need to try Hoolios in Horsforth at some point but I think it’s daytimes only?)

It was great!! It wasn’t that busy, but the service was fab, the food was delicious - lots of veggie and vegan options too!l 💚🌱

Mark & Mack had fajitas (Mack loves the sizzle 🥰) and I had the veggie chilli with vegan cheese. Yummy.

They offer student discount via unidays or you can get money off if you download the app 💫

Much appreciation for Gergo who loaned us sombreros for the photos & gave Mack churros on the house for his birthday 🤩🥳

I couldn’t help but notice they do a bottomless….

Kiekkaaste , Netherlands Honestly, that single track above the reeds was plenty wide enough, but every time I looked down my legs went to jelly!! 😕😆 This is a beautiful spot, declared a hidden gem in the region, a wooden bird hide standing high above the water Loved it! My favourite thing by far though, was the eel footpath - how cute is this? The baby seals travel upstream then cross the dam using this footpath. Once they’ve made it to the other side and safety, they mature to adulthood, mate and then set off back to the Sargasso Sea over 2000km away (in the middle of the Atlantic) to have their babies!!🪱💖🪱 Did you know all wild eels living in Europe and the US were born in the Sargasso Sea? #kiekkaaste #waddensea #unesco #whisky #slowtravel #girlaboutleeds #distillery #vegan #sargassosea #eels #twitching #birdwatching

Friesland, Netherlands I had the most amazing “slow travel’ trip to the Netherlands recently for H&N Magazine and LOOK at the fabulous view from my room at the Eems Hotel😍 It stands on stilts above The Wadden sea (UNESCO heritage site) and it’s a perfect spot to stay for rambling and nature watching in the region.🦅🕊️ Dinner at the Cooperatie de Graanrepubliek was something else! Amazing vegan food, and a first for me - a shot of distilled clay! 🌾🌾🥃 The Netherlands is a great destination for vegan food & a brilliant choice for anyone wanting a break with low environmental impact.
