ASP - Abergavenny Small Press ASP is an independent small press focusing on local authors, poets and authors. We will accept submissions from the rest of the world.

We publish fiction, poetry and artwork. We have a quarterly online literary journal, the inaugural issue is due October

06/01/2024

Issue #11 of the ASP Literary Journal is now online. We have stories by some of our regular contributors, as well as new, including a first for both author and English literature, Ferenc Gaspar's Hungarian translated story, 'They can Count on me'. ASP is the first English publication to publish one of his stories. And there is artwork from Edward Supranowicz, another of our regulars.

Go and make the most of it, as it will be the last one for some time. Due to circumstances beyond my control, the ASP - Abergavenny Small Press journal will now be on hiatus for the foreseeable future.

Issue #11 is smaller than usual, as we had no poetry editor for this edition. But, to use Estate Agent parlance, it's compact & bijou.

Feel free to pop into the shop while you are there and refresh your memory of our past glories by picking up an archived copy (or two) of previous journals.

On 30th Nov 2023 ASP will be proudly launching the debut novel of Sharif Gemie, tonight we will begin the build up with a partial cover reveal. A full cover reveal to be exposed on Friday. Pre-orders for Sharif's book can be purchased from the ASP website shop:

'The Displaced' - by Sharif Gemie:

'A compelling tale of love, loss and hope in the ruins of World War Two

In 1945, an idealistic young couple leave London for Europe. Edmund and Eleanor feel called to be part of a humanitarian mission to help the millions of people displaced by conflict and fascism.

Back home, Edmund was a bookseller and Eleanor an ambulance-driver, fired up by socialism and feminism. They aim to help refugees rebuild their lives, but volunteering for a UN agency means confronting bureaucracy and corruption.

Edmund struggles to lead a UN humanitarian team, while Eleanor grows disillusioned. On top of these problems, Eleanor hides a troubling secret which will drop like a bombshell into the marriage.

From Britain, to France, Germany, Poland and beyond.

A poignant story of a couple struggling to understand each other with the backdrop of Europe at a crossroads.'

Hello All,

Today sees the launch of ASP's Literary Journal Issue #10. With a range of contributors stemming from close to home in Abergavenny to further afield to the shores of Ireland and the United States.

A smaller issue than usual as we are currently bereft of a Poetry Editor. IF there are any poets out there who might fancy a stint one quarter in the role of guest editor, do please drop me an email.

So, come one, come all, and enjoy our magazine - it's free, y'know?

Welcome all to another issue of the ASP Literary Journal, Issue #10. Unfortunately, we are back to our problem of no poetry editor. So a smaller edition of the journal this quarter. Once again if there are any poets in our readership who would care to volunteer for a stint one quarter (or more) as o...

Calling all poets:

ASP's poetry editor has retired and we are now looking for someone to take up the role. Ideally we would be looking for someone who could take the role on permanently, but we would also consider 'Guest' editors on a rolling basis.

The position is purely voluntary, I'm afraid, to date we are unable to pay our staff. Poetry submissions take up about six weeks of every quarter, before a journal is published. If anyone is interested please email me at ASP - Abergavenny Small Press
