Ogun to reconstruct Ikenne Township Road -Abiodun

Ogun State Governor Prince Dapo Abiodun at the weekend said his administration would soon award the contract for the reconstruction of the Ikenne township road.

The road, according to him, would begin from Aiyepe junction.

Governor Abiodun, who made this known during the 47th annual Ikenne Ereke Day celebration with the theme 'Divine Year of Accomplishment', held at the Ereke Civic Center, Ikenne, said that the reconstruction of the township road would further complement the completion of the stretch of the road coming from Sagamu.

He also disclosed that the model school built and abandoned by the immediate past administration in the state would soon be converted into a World Class Centre of Excellence by his administration.

"I will soon be awarding the Ikenne township road contract, and that will start from the Aiyepe junction to Uren River. That will complete the stretch coming from Sagamu, and it will give this town the beauty it deserves.

"We have completed the Sagamu-Ikenne road. I know some of our brothers and sisters in Ikenne would have wanted us to dualise it. As a government, our decisions are driven by data. That road does not enjoy enough traffic to allow us to dualise it. So, we looked at the cost benefit and decided that we would complete one side of the road, and when that traffic justifies it, we will now complete the other part.

"We will soon be converting the Model School in Ikenne to a World Class Centre of Excellence," he said

The governor also reiterated that the Ogun State Agro Cargo Airport being constructed in the state would be commissioned soon with commercial activities commencing at the airport, noting that a dry port would also berth in the state.

"That airport two years ago was nothing but a forest. The pessimists said to us we could not build it; some people called it a dump site. By the grace of the Almighty God, we will be commissioning that airport before the end of this year 2023, and that airport will resume commercial operation. Plane will be departing from Ikerne local government and going to Abuja.

"In our relentless efforts to make our state more accessible to business, we have unfolded our multi-model transport master plan, which included the construction of this airport.

"In furtherance of that implementation, we will soon be establishing the Ogun State Dry Port which is a port without a sea at the Kajola-Papalanto axis, thereby further facilitating our manufacturers to ship their raw materials from anywhere in the world or export their finished goods from Kajola in Ogun State to the rest of the world," he noted.

Governor Abiodun, while ascribing the rise of the Internally Generated Revenue of the state to the strong political will of his administration, said that his government would continue to do everything within its capacity to soar higher.

"I remain very humble to be the governor of this great state; the state with the most improved internally generated revenue in the country according to Budgit and by the grace of God, we are the third largest in internally generated revenue from the very back position that we occupied in the recent past.

"This has been possible because of our strong political will and dogged determination to change the old order and move the state towards sustainable growth and prosperity," he added.

Earlier in her remarks, the wife of the former Vice President, Mrs Dolapo Osinbajo, felicitated with the sons and daughters of the town, describing them as special people.

In furtherance to our commitment towards ensuring that all Federal government roads in Ogun State receives proper and immediate attention, we have today met with the Honourable Minister of Works, His Excellency, Dave Umahi who was on a working visit to our office at Oke-Mosan.

Ogun State is notable for having the largest number of Federal roads and we duly informed the Honourable Minister of the hardship and discomfort being experienced by the good people of Ogun State plying these roads on a daily basis. At our level, we have been doing our best by carrying out different forms of palliatives and in some cases, a total reconstruction of some of the Federal roads within our territory.

Some of the roads dissucssed, are the Lagos-Ota-Abeokuta, Sango Ota-Idi Iroko, Sagamu-Ogijo-Ikorodu, and Adatan-Gbonagun-Ibadan roads to mention but few.

We are glad that the Minister of Works had given us his assurances of a timely intervention on these roads for the overall benefit of everyone.

Abiodun calls for police support in flushing out kidnappers, cultists, set to launch surveillance drone

Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State on Wednesday said efforts are being made by his government to flush out kidnappers, cultists, and land grabbers.

Consequently, the state government has concluded arrangements to launch its surveillance drones, to be performed by the Acting Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun.

Governor Abiodun spoke when he received the Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG), Zone 2, comprising Ogun and Lagos states, Mr Ari Mohammed Ali, who paid him a courtesy call in his office at Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.

Prince Abiodun noted that kidnapping, cultism, and land grabbing are serious security challenges facing the government that must be tackled headlong.

He said: "Very soon, we will be inviting the Inspector General to our state because we want to launch our Surveillance Drones. We believe that with the use of drones, we will be able to reduce the number of blind spots that we have in the state because as of now, there is no way, even if we deplore the entire police in Ogun State, we can not cover all the blind spots in the state.

"When we deplore these drones, particularly, along the known occurrences, it will allow men of the Command to respond to distress calls as soon as they identified where the crime has been committed.

"Also, I would like to plead with you for some of your men to assist us in this anti-cultism fight. We are prepared to provide them with the required logistics as the former CP will be overseeing the different units of Anti-cultism, kidnapping, and Quick Response Squad.

The governor, who solicited the cooperation of the AIG in breaking the backbone of land grabbing, said, when arrested, the culprits prefer being taken to Zone 2 to avoid being prosecuted.

He said: "I want to solicit your support in ensuring that we break the back of this land grabbing. I understand that there are instances where land grabbers are arrested in Ogun State and they are brought to Zone 2 for questioning.

"I expect that they take them straight to the Commissioner of Police first and only if the CP in his wisdom believes that the case should be transferred to the Assistant Inspector General of Police, then it should be transferred to the AIG because what we found out in the past is that they do this to avoid been properly prosecuted.

"They believe they can come to Zone 2 and play some games. When they are left off the hook, they come back again to terrorise the people. Most of the land grabbers are repeat offenders. So I want you to help us to look into this so that we can ensure that the land grabbers do not escape the long hands of the law."

Prince Abiodun assured of logistics support to the police to enable them to discharge their duties effectively.

Prince Abiodun emphasized that as a state with the highest number of industries in the country as well as educational and religious camps, coupled with having the busiest federal highway, a lot of pressure is put on the security architecture, hence his administration is collaborating with neighbouring states in patrolling major roads, particularly at the border areas, to reduce attacks from hoodlums.

He said for the state to sustain its position as the industrial hub of the country, his administration would ensure that incidences of security infraction are nip in the bud, expressing the hope that with AIG Ali's rich experience and background in operations, insecurity in the state would be a thing of the past.

Speaking earlier, AIG Mohammed Ali, said he came to familiarise himself with the state, adding that his Zone was ready to take the fight to all land grabbers, kidnappers and cultists disrupting the peace of the state.

He appreciated the governor for his past assistance to the zone and called for more support from the state government to enable his officers and men to carry out their duties more efficiently.

Oloyede, lauded the strategic location of the airport, with it's proximity to Western parts of Nigeria, Lagos -Ibadan expressway, on the southern side and Sagamu -Benin expressway.

In his remarks, Secretary to the State Government, Tokunbo Talabi, said the initiative was targeted towards aggressive industrialization in the state, which is strictly guided by an inherent developmental philosophy of ISEYA mantra, as entrenched in the state's distinct agenda, which is Building Our Future Together."

'' Whichever way you want to approach the airport, the access to Lagos, the fifth largest economy in Africa and Nigeria's largest economy is very easy", Talabi stated.

Ogun Begins Conversion of Buses, Motorcycles, Tricycles To Gas, Electricity August

Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, on Monday, disclosed that the E-mobility and Gas Mobility Programme of the state will take off in the first week of August.

The governor also said that his administration would take advantage of the newly signed electricity bill that regulates the power sector by establishing a company that would generate and distribute power supply in the Gateway State.

Prince Abiodun spoke when he received participants of the Senior Executive Course 45, Group 1, of the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS), Kuru, Jos, who came on a courtesy call in his office at Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.

He said that his administration would, in its second term, focus on the provision of public utilities, which include water and electricity supply.

The e-mobility and gas mobility involves the conversion of mass transit buses from petroleum fuel to gas and motorcycles (Okada) to electric.

The governor said the topic of the visit; "Industrialization, Climate change and Energy Security in Nigeria: Issues, Challenges and Prospects, aligned with his administration's transition objectives.

He said: “I am proud to say that in Ogun State, we have put in measures and plans to begin an energy transition plan and we are going to start converting all our state buses to begin to run on CnG; that program has already commenced and we are actually going to launch what we call our our E-mobility and Gas Mobility Programme sometime around the end of this month or first week in August.

“The gas mobility is that which we convert not just our buses to operate on gas, but all mass transit will begin to operate on gas and our E-mobility is a program that will make for all our motorcycles and tricycles to run on electricity. They will be battery-powered. We are going to launch that program either last week of this month or first week of next month.

“We will take the motorcycles from the riders and give them electric powered motorcycles, this program will have a cushion effect on what our masses are currently experiencing and besides that, it will begin a new phase of dispensation of clean energy which speaks to the issue of climate change.”

The governor also said that Ogun State is planning to generate its own electricity, following the signing of the 2023 Electricity Bill into law by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on June 9, which empowers states, companies and individuals to generate, transmit and distribute power.

“We are going to take advantage of the constitutional amendment that has now removed power generation from the exclusive list and put it on the concurrent list.

“We will have our own generation company, state distribution company, and ensure that we can provide more power to our major towns and cities. Once we are able to do that, the grid can be sufficient for our small towns,” he said.

The governor also disclosed that his government has spent so much on the rehabilitation of water works across the state in its efforts at ensuring the availability of portable water to the populace.

He added: “On the issue of water, we have spent a lot of money on our water works. It will interest you to know that our water works from Ogun River, is what Lagos State depends on.
“We've invested a lot of money in our water works. What we need to do now is to be creative about reticulation and also provide water in all our major towns and cities.

“Those will be one of our focal areas so that we can ensure that we have sustainable towns and cities where we have electricity and water supply,” he said.

The governor noted that his administration's vision on assuming office on May 29, 2019, was to create an enabling environment for Public Private Partnership as well as touching all the critical sectors of the State's economy through the Infrastructure, Social Wellbeing, Education, Youth Empowerment and Agriculture (ISEYA) mantras.

As the industrial hub of the nation, Prince Abiodun said the issue of security was given the needed attention as modern security gadgets, training and welfare of security personnel working in the State was given priority, noting that this has paid off as the state is regarded as one of the most peaceful in the country.

The State helmsman, who assured that the airport currently under construction would be open for commercial activities in the next four months, also disclosed that a Dry Port that would allow industries to import and clear their goods without much troubles is being planned along the rail lines at Kajola.

Speaking earlier, the team leader and the Director of Studies, Prof. (Mrs.) Oluwafunmilayo Para-Mallam, said the participants are embarking on the study as mandated by the President to research on topical issues of national importance, saying Ogun State was selected as the result of it being the industrial capital of the country.

She said many indigenes of the State have passed through the Institute and are making their marks in both national and international arena.

Para-Mallam added that the institute did not make a mistake by choosing the State as part of its tour of study, acknowledging the achievements made by the present administration in all sectors of the economy.

The Senior Executive Course 45 Group 1 of the Institute is on a one-week study tour of the State.

Adebutu, Ogun PDP suffer another legal loss as tribunal dismisses application

It was another round of legal setback for Ladi Adebutu and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Thursday as the Ogun State Election Petitions Tribunal dismissed their application seeking to strike out Governor Dapo Abiodun’s prayers establishing vote buying allegations against them.

Previously, Governor Abiodun had made a strong allegation of electoral fraud against the PDP candidate, Ladi Adebutu, and his party, allegedly perpetrated during the March 18 governorship election in the state.

Consequently, acting on what it termed a plethora of evidences at its disposal through discreet investigation and the confessions of some members of PDP who were caught in action, criminal charges were filed against Adebutu, PDP, and Zenith Bank, with the police accusing them of gross criminal conspiracy and money laundering during the polls, following which Adebutu hurriedly sneaked out of the country.

Meanwhile, the portion of Governor Abiodun's response at the Tribunal, which specifically indicates the degree and effects of electoral fraud committed by Adebutu and the PDP, was unanimously admitted by the panel, against the application seeking to strike it out, giving the governor another victory in the ongoing legal proceedings.

Adebutu and PDP had argued that their petition did not include allegations of vote buying and so the governor’s defence should not also have included such allegations.

However, in its ruling, which was delivered by a member, Hon. Justice J.B. Egele and supported by the Chairman Hon Justice H N Kunaza and the other member Hon. Justice Sannusi Shehu, the Tribunal held that Governor Abiodun was not restricted to the same issues that Adebutu and PDP raised in their petition.

The Tribunal further held that in any event, vote buying is in the same family as corrupt practices, which is a ground on which Adebutu and PDP filed their petition, and accordingly dismissed the application.

Following this ruling, Governor Abiodun is free to present evidence of vote buying by Adebutu and PDP.

Describing the new leadership as a round peg in a round hole, Governor Abiodun said Akpabio has a wealth of knowledge to deploy in managing the affairs of the senate having been a governor and a minister.

Hon. Abbas, the governor added has garnered the requisite legislative knowledge for a smooth working relationship with the executive.

He said that the combination of Akpabio and Abbas will help President Tinubu in his transformation agenda for the country.
