From Somalia, where 7 million face starvation. Half the children are malnourished, and at least one child dies every day.

Somalia is a country on the edge of famine after its longest drought for 40 years - and this crisis is still getting worse.

Almost 1 million have already been forced to flee their land here. They walk for days through barren, dangerous wilderness seeking help. They are desperate and they are hungry. But even at the aid camps, there’s still not enough food to go around.

Somalia is now suffering its longest period of drought for more than 40 years and hundreds of thousands of people are suffering from hunger and exhaustion. | ITV National News

The publication of drug death statistics has become Scotland’s annual day of shame. Today is that day.

Watching a person stick a needle into their neck, though, it’s hard to dismiss it as a matter of ‘personal choice’ or criminality. It’s not even about a high at this stage of addiction.

This is self-harm from people struggling to cope. It’s just rarely treated with the same compassion.

COVID-19 deaths counted by the thousand allow us to measure the scale of the pandemic. But it’s the death of one - somebody’s one - that allows us to see the pain of loss in every care home currently besieged by Coronavirus.

This is Jim & Sally’s story.

https://www.itv.com/news/2020-04-29/a-couple-s-last-moment-together-as-coronavirus-deaths-in-scotland-s-care-homes-spikes/

Care homes are the new epicentre for Scotland’s fight with coronavirus. While deaths are slowing elsewhere, in care homes, the number is still sharply rising. Over the last week, Scottish care homes had more Covid-19 deaths than hospitals. That’s the first time that’s been seen anywhere in the...

How has Coronavirus changed the Hebrides? Thank you to the islanders on Coll and Barra who helped us make this report.

The lure of Scotland's Hebrides is splendid isolation. In a global coronavirus pandemic, though, it's no place for an idyllic retreat. There are no Intensive Care Unit (ICU) beds with ventilators on the islands, it's a long, long way to the nearest hospital, and any medical evacuation to the mainlan...

The true scale of Scotland’s drug death crisis could be when worse than we know as families face an agonising wait to learn how loved ones died. My gratitude goes to the Jacksons for sharing their story and speaking out so bravely.

Scotland's drug death statistics make for grim reading: drug death capital of Europe; now even worse than America. The next figures are due to be published this July - and expected to show another increase on last year’s record-high 1,187 people killed by drugs. However, there have been huge delay...

Change in Vietnam has been rapid. In the 1980s, recovering from decades of war fighting off France, America, China, and Pol Pot's Khmer Rouge, it was one of the poorest countries on the planet. Then the collapse of the Soviet Union left the Socialist Republic of Vietnam even more isolated. Yet, some...
