We are excited that for our 150th episode Sue Stockdale talks to Kris Tompkins, widely recognised as one of the most successful conservation philanthropists in history.

Over the last three decades Kris, who is former CEO of Patagonia and President of Tompkins Conservation and her late husband Doug Tompkins, who co-founded The North Face and Esprit, have driven the creation of 15 national parks, protecting over 15 million acres of land, and 30 million acres of ocean in Argentina and Chile.

(The total land mass of UK is 60 million acres for comparison)

Tompkins Conservation are also working towards large scale rewilding in the Americas, actively restoring habitat, and reintroducing over two dozen species including top predators like jaguars.

In the conversation Kris draws parallels between business principles and conservation, emphasising the importance of risk-taking, teamwork, and continuous learning.

Kris also considers the role that inspiration and visionary leadership plays, how rewilding efforts benefit from the evolution of technology, and the drive to make a positive impact.

Finally, she encourages listeners to take active, purposeful steps in their daily lives to contribute to environmental well-being, expressing a desire that more people will engage with, and appreciate nature.

"Nine times out of ten, you’re stronger than you think you are. The only way to find out is to go for it."

Earlier this year Zara Lachlan became the first woman, and youngest person, to row solo, unsupported and non-stop from mainland Europe to mainland South America.

She spent 97 days alone at sea rowing over 3500 nautical miles- a wonderful demonstration of physical capability, courage and resilience.
