Melton Mowbray: Large fire at disused door factory

Crews were called to the blaze at the former Jeld-Wen site, in Snow Hill, Melton Mowbray, just after 21:05 GMT on Tuesday.

Extra resources were requested due to the fire's scale, and at its height, eight crews and at least 32 firefighters attended.

Witness appeal after crash victim's death

Officers have appealed for witnesses to a crash involving a van and a pedestrian who later died from unrelated causes.

Leicestershire Police said the man, who was in his 40s, was struck by a transit van in Welford Road, Leicester, on 13 January but was not seriously injured.

He died at home on 3 February but a post-mortem examination found his death was unrelated to injuries from the crash.

The council said it had agreed a deal for the firm to purchase a 6.4-acre site off Thurcaston Road for more than £3.5m.

Met Office issues severe cold weather health alert for Leicestershire

The Met Office has issued a severe amber cold weather warning for Leicestershire, urging residents to look out for the elderly and vulnerable. The severe weather action alert is only issued when there are potentially serious health issues to be caused by a sustained period of freezing conditions.

The Met Office has said there is a 90 per cent chance of severe cold weather/icy conditions between 9am on Thursday (Jan 26) and 12pm on Saturday (Jan 28) in Leicestershire. The forecasting organisation said: “This weather could increase the health risks to vulnerable patients and disrupt the delivery of services.”

Hinckley: Plans for new £14.5m NHS diagnostic centre at hospital

A47: Police make dashcam appeal after woman dies in crash

The crash involved a white Volkswagen Take Up, which ended up in a ditch, and a Scania HGV on the A47, between Houghton on the Hill and Thurnby, at about 15:30 GMT on Wednesday.

The driver of the Volkswagen, a woman in her 30s from London, died a short time later.

A50 Groby Road: Motorists will now face fines for bus lane driving

Camera enforcement began on a section of the A50 Groby Road in Leicester from 2 January.

During the first two-week grace period, 136 motorists were caught driving in the bus lane and were issued with warning notices instead of fines.

But from this week, drivers caught in the lane will face a £70 fine.

Charge after Leicester crash following police pursuit

A teenager has been charged after a crash following a police pursuit.

A pursuit was authorised after the driver of a Kia failed to stop for officers in Leicester at about 04:30 GMT on Saturday, police said.

A road has been closed due to flooding, and a flood alert has been put in place for Leicestershire. Heavy rain over the past 48 hours has led to the Environment Agency putting out a warning for the Lower River Soar area.
