Following my official departure as Youth MP for South Tyneside, I’ve been busy in Parliament!

🔖 The wonderful Sharon Hodgson MP invited me to speak at her All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) on school food. It was great to promote youth voice in a policy area which affects young people so much.

📚 I’m officially in a Parliamentary Report! The Youth Select Committee published their report following their inquiry into the Cost of Living Crisis this week and I’ve been quoted representing on School Meals and my own experience with young people’s employability.

Back in September representing I joined other representatives in giving evidence to the ’s Youth Select Committee. Their inquiry into the impact of the Cost of Living Crisis on young people will be invaluable in providing targeted and effective support going forward.

What an experience! It was an absolute pleasure to be representing and the only young person celebrity judge for ’s inaugural Good School Food Awards. We had so many great entries for Young Activist of the Year, but ultimately it was the brilliant who took home the trophy for her amazing work with and UK Government Ministers fighting for young people and their health during the cost of living crisis. Congratulations Saf!

South Tyneside Young People’s Parliament presents: Our South Tyneside — Places To Go, Things To Do. This is both a digital and illustrated map set to be placed in every secondary school in the borough to support young people in accessing all things health and well-being.

This is a culmination of over a year’s worth of campaign work from South Tyneside’s marvellous Young People’s Parliament. With over 3,600 young people engaged across consultation and several events in the borough, this is our biggest campaign yet and sure to have our biggest impact. In addition to the map, we also launched a photography competition, entries of which were featured in national tourism promotion.

Biggest thanks go to every single member of STYPP, the Participation team, Cllr Pat Hay, Cllr Adam Ellison and Public Health for the wonderful support throughout the campaign. What a year!

The young people of continue to make headlines with their campaign. Today I featured in the discussing how crucial it is that our Government takes action to support the health, wellbeing and futures of young people across the country by extending free school meals support.

I had the pleasure of chairing South Tyneside Council’s Annual Intergenerational debate yesterday in the marvellous Council Chambers at South Shields Town Hall. It’s always brilliant to hear from a range of perspectives, including cabinet members, public health representatives and youth parliamentarians. Congratulations to everyone who took part!

I’m proud to announce that I’ve been asked by the wonderful Jamie Oliver to represent the young people of Bite Back 2030 on the Good School Food Awards’ celebrity judging panel alongside Greg James, Seema Pankhania, Jimi Famuwera, Mary Berry and more! Magic happens when kids are fed well and are given the chance to develop a passion for good food and to expect better of the systems around them. Let’s thank the everyday heroes behind it. Delighted to have hosted South Tyneside’s 11th annual “FAB” anti-bullying awards alongside members from South Tyneside Young People’s Parliament on Tuesday. It’s great to hear about all of the innovative ways schools are tackling bullying across the borough. Thanks to South Tyneside Council and the Participation team for all of their help.

We launched the brand new ‘South Tyneside Young People’s Parliament’ website yesterday at our Health and Wellbeing event alongside our Director of Public health. It’s a brilliant new addition to our outreach programme. The fight for support goes on. We will not be ignored . It’s not good enough to ignore hundreds of thousands of children living in poverty who aren’t currently eligible for FSM. We need more. We are demanding more.

I spoke at the House of Commons back in November, urging the house to call on government to extend support to all children in poverty. Now, a petition reaching over 250,000 signatures has officially been handed in to 10 Downing Street and following ’s stunt in Westminster last week, public support is higher than ever. It’s over to you,

I joined the team at on Saturday in Westminster to hand in our petition to extend Free School Meal Support to all children in poverty. By closing, it received over the massive landmark 250,000 signatures. This provision would alleviate significant pressure on families living in poverty in one of the greatest cost of living crises we have ever seen and I urge you to continue to make noise around this crucial issue.

An absolutely phenomenal time hosting YouthCon for the British Youth Council at the fabulous South Shields Town Hall on Saturday. MYPs from across the north east came together to hone our debate skills ahead of the House of Commons sitting in November. It was fantastic experience chairing the debate with support of our great Mayor Cllr Hay. She said "Our own Member of the Youth Parliament, Luke Hall, did a fantastic job of chairing the debate and the quality of it was outstanding.” Youth voice never stops!

It’s been awhile, but the work continues! I’ve been busy this summer planning with South Tyneside’s Youth Parliament on the Health and Well-being campaign and my own personal ambitions with the UK Youth Parliament and the British Youth Council. Now, I’m pleased to announce my position with the fabulous organisation as a member of their respected National Youth Board! I’ve been to a very inspiring residential in Reading recently, forming new partnerships and developing Bite Back’s trailblazing child health initiatives for the future.

Into the new academic year, I’ll be focusing on South Tyneside Youth Parliament’s Event 2, which will be held in one of the best community spaces in the borough (more to come soon.) And, I’ll work continually with the National Youth Board at BB2030 alongside my own campaigns at the BYC. Follow , and for more!

SUCCESS! My motion to heavily reduce plastic waste and demands to our gov. have been passed by a majority of MYPs at national Youth Parliament at Annual Conference 2022 at Hull University. I’ll continue to push for change and pursue this issue back in South Tyneside.
