Harpist Ruth Wall was due to tour her seasonal repertoire this month, but all dates were cancelled due to the pandemic, so she will perform an informal festive concert online from her kitchen in Sennen instead on Thursday, December 17. All the music was arranged by Ruthโs husband, composer Graham Fitkin, for her three harps: Concert harp, buzzing Renaissance bray harp and the bell-like Gaelic wire-strung harp. Expect carols both familiar and lesser-known, a festive Iranian tune, a Ukrainian new year song and a little Handel. The concert will be available from 7pm and will remain available for 48 hours. Tickets cost ยฃ7.50 - book at www.fitkin.com and receive details and an access code on the day of the concert. Enjoy with a festive drink and a mince pie.

Tomorrow marks the 174th anniversary of the worst mining disaster in Cornwall's history - and it happened right on our doorstep.
East Wheal Rose Mine will be a familiar site to many, as the engine house, one of the shafts and chimney sit in the centre of Lappa Valley.
On the 9th July, heavy rainfall filled the mine that was being worked between 100 fathoms (183m) and 50 fathoms (91.5m) level below ground.
At the time of the accident, upwards of 200 local men were working underground of whom 39 lost their lives. Some of those who died were as young as 15.
May they all rest in peace.

Amazing photo of chough action from the Tin Coast
Thought weโd share this for all of you missing your dose of nature while our places are closed - while out and about on Tin Coast site checks yesterday we managed to grab this shot of a Palores Kernewek, or Cornish Chough in English, who took exception to a kestrel looking for food and swooped in to chase it off - as soon as the chough had gone the kestrel was back, hovering over the same spot hunting again

Today should be Helston Flora Day, but for obvious reasons the usual celebrations will not be happening. Here are some shots from last year. The Chinese ladies are family friends and were in Cornwall especially for the event; we had a great day, and I love the fun and candid nature of that particular image.

Dear reader,
Iโm sorry I have not been in touch before now and that we have as yet been unable to bring you the April print edition of Cornwall Today. The events of the last few weeks have knocked us sideways, as they have many other businesses in all corners of the community.
Our hope all along has been to find a way to carry on publishing Cornwall Today โ and to do so in print, which is our overriding passion and the thing we do best. To that end, I have some encouraging news.
We intend to get Cornwall Today back into print in the shape of a Spring Special โ a positive, uplifting tonic for everyone labouring within the restrictions and deprivations of this public health crisis; the perfect antidote to these bleak and testing times. We are working on it now and it will be an unashamedly optimistic celebration of all that is great about Cornwall.
We intend to make it a bumper edition that will encompass all of the very best features and writing we had already assembled for the April edition of the magazine, blended together with fresh new content that will help transport us forward into spring and beyond.
Your Cornwall Today Spring Special โ a manifesto for Cornwallโs revival โ will be heading for the printers in two weeksโ time and will be with you very soon afterwards.
Thank you for your patience and for your support of the magazine in difficult times. And I hope you will find your Cornwall Today Spring Special was worth the wait.
Best wishes, Tim Dixon, Editor-in-chief

Available to pre-order now.
Our new 100ml bottles of WHO 75% alcohol handrub solution are now available to pre-order from our website https://www.colwithfarmdistillery.co.uk/shop ready for dispatch from wk commencing Mon April 13th.
๐ฅ We have switched to fermenting molasses instead of potatoes this week (as we make the base ethanol from scratch at the distillery).
We have also finally been able to re-source our bottle supplier (you can imagine the supply chain issues and price hikes right now).
๐ This means that we have been able to produce a more cost effective solution for all those in need.
The product comes in safe, recyclable PET plastic bottles with pump tops to minimise risks of spillage and help reduce usage.
These can be purchased in quantities of five or ten including express courier service.
Bulk orders can be secured by emailing the distillery direct on [email protected].
๐ Individual bottles are available to buy from box shop outside the distillery on the Lanlivery junction of the A390 (honesty box, correct change needed- you can also pick up fresh farm fruit, veg, milk, eggs etc. Strictly one in, one out).
Thank you all so much for your support, it means a lot!

Due to the coronavirus pandemic, the April edition of Cornwall Today is available online only. You can find it here: https://pocketmags.com/cornwall-today-magazine
Thanks to Charles Francis for the cover stars, and to reader Ian M Houston across the pond, who bought his earlier today and said: "I loved the piece on Tim Rice, so many other good stories and strong photography... I have backed away from the news a bit of late, and so the magazine is a ray of light which transports me to one of my favourite places in the world, and all it offers. The spirit of Cornwall truly emerges."
Enjoy, and stay safe, one and all.
