What does editing an ELT Student Book have to do with baking a cake? Quite a bit! 🎂🍰🧁

Attention to detail ✅
Editing: Goes without saying.
Cake: Read your recipe carefully – should you fold in gently or whizz in a blender? The latter could lead to flat cake.

The right ingredients ✅
Editing: Do you have a clear brief? Do you understand exactly what you need to do? Are you missing any background information or supporting documents?
Cake: Do you have everything you actually need for your recipe? Don’t guess; check in the kitchen cupboards.

What flavour do you want? ✅
Editing: Is it a copyedit or a content edit? A proofread or a proof-edit?
Cake: Victoria sandwich or coffee and walnut? Carrot cake or apple muffins?

Who’s your audience? ✅
Editing: Who’s going to be reading it, and where? What level are the students learning at?
Cake: Does anyone have any dietary requirements? Do you need to produce a gluten-free or a vegan 2nd edition?

Like most people, when my alarm goes off on Monday (or any day, for that matter) it's not welcome. Where did the weekend go?! However, most Mondays now start with an hour's training with the local running group I joined a little over a year ago.
