Acceptance vs. Avoidance

We all have things we’d rather not face—painful memories, uncomfortable truths, or difficult emotions. And often, without realising it, we push them aside, telling ourselves we've "moved on" or "let it go."

But have we really?

There’s a big difference between true acceptance and avoidance disguised as acceptance.

🌿 Avoidance looks like:

Constant distraction—keeping busy to avoid the discomfort.

Numbing feelings through habits that help us escape.

Telling ourselves “it doesn’t matter anymore,” when deep down, it still does.

🌿 Acceptance looks like:

Acknowledging the reality of what happened without judgment.

Allowing emotions to surface and giving them space.

Finding peace with the experience rather than trying to erase it.

Acceptance doesn’t mean we have to like what happened, and it certainly doesn’t mean giving up. It means facing things head-on, understanding their impact, and choosing to move forward with awareness and compassion.

The truth is, the things we run from tend to follow us... but when we turn to face them, we take back our power.

When we're in survival mode, our focus is on getting through each day, keeping things together. But once we feel secure... emotionally, mentally and physically... our deeper layers begin to unfold. It’s as if our inner self says, “Now we have the space to heal.”

When you drop a pebble into a still pond... That tiny action creates a ripple, a small disturbance that expands outward, touching everything in its path.

It might seem insignificant at first, but those ripples keep spreading, reaching the far edges of the pond.

Our lives are like that... Even the smallest act of self-awareness, that seemingly insignificant moment, can create ripples that transform our entire experience.

Ever felt a surge of anger at a seemingly harmless comment? Or maybe a well-meaning suggestion sent you spiralling into self-doubt?

You're not alone!!

We all have triggers, buttons that get pushed, setting off a flood of emotions.
It could be a certain phrase, a particular tone of voice, a specific situation that instantly transports us back to a past experience, reigniting old wounds and unresolved emotions.

When we understand our triggers, we can disarm them and master our responses.

Remember that it is a process. There will be times when you slip up and react impulsively. That's okay. The key is to be gentle with yourself, learn from the experience, and keep practicing your response skills.
