Mindset
So you have this desire to "do your own thing" and you have probably though "I have to get out of this bad industry/ job/situation/partnership etc etc etc” but you just don't know how to go about it. You have probably thought about a lot of things you could do but then thought as many reasons for not going ahead such as lack of money/time/knowledge/confidence/self esteem and so on and so on.
Sound familiar?
It probably does because most people have those thoughts when they are starting out.
Well here's the first thing to remember.
People buy from people.
If you do not consider this important or relevant, consider this example.
You go out to a really top restaurant where the food is great, the decor fantastic etc but the waiter or waitress is either offhand or doesn't even smile while serving you. Then consider the little cafe or coffee shop or pub near where you live. The decor is a little past its “sell by date”, and the food is good but not going to win any plaudits from the food critics. However they know your name when you walk in and smile and ask how you are. It costs them nothing but they've probably got you as a customer for a very long time.
Looking at it another way. Suppose you love animals and you want to start a little business supplying pet accessories that are a little different to people who share your passion for looking after their pets (never mind about websites and SEO and all that stuff. We'll come to that later).
Let's look first at the most important thing – turning a customer into a long term client.
When your customer buys from you, you send an email to their pet (or mention them on your page) asking when their birthday is so you can send them n e-card. You post a picture of them on your page. You send the owners tips on how to care for their pet. You suggest good kennels/catteries etc in the area .
In other words you show that you care.
Now if I'm a customer of yours, do you think that I am going to buy from a large faceless corporation with a massive marketing budget which is spent on television ads do you think I am going to buy from you?
Don't you think that there are loads of similar opportunities like that out there : )
Food for thought?
