Behind The Scenes: From Track Creation to Performance 🎶🎹🎤
Back in the good old days, all the music we heard was generated by musicians playing musical instruments.
But over the years, as is true in all aspects of life, improvements in technology have negated the need for human beings and backing bands are invariably replaced by digital representations from a tablet or mp3 player.
Alas, we are no exception, as we don't yet have our own band of musicians. However, we do take pride in the fact that all of our backing music is created in-house.
Roger meticulously arranges and records every track from the ground up. The studio editing process is extensive, with the emphasis on trying to maintain a more 'human' feel than bought-in computer-generated alternatives.
Then we all collaborate on vocal arrangements, where our dedicated singers rehearse tirelessly to perfect their intricate harmonies.
And yes, all vocals are completely live - no corrective technology is used and we never add pre-recorded vocals to the backing track. Unfortunately, these 'cheats' are becoming alarmingly common in modern stage performances.
To demonstrate this progression, we've chosen one of the less complicated tracks in our repertoire and compiled a few snippets from various stages of the process, from backing track creation, through vocal rehearsal, to final performance.

Hi everyone, hope all you lovely people are having a festive time!🎄
As Kelly mentioned a little while back, we've been working on a Christmas greeting, in the form of a home-made music video.
2023 has been such an amazing year for us, not least because the ambition to perform one of our shows in small theatres was finally realized.
Over the course of the year, I've had the privelege of working with five ludicrously talented young ladies, whose live vocal harmony work has elevated the overall sound of our performances to a completely new level.
All of these vocalists have their own professional careers in the music industry, which geographically separate them out as follows;
Kelly - Cheshire
Megan - Staffs
Ebony - Devon
Rachel - Dorset
Sophie - singing on a cruise ship, which is currently somewhere off the coast of New Zealand!
So I thought it'd be fun to work on a daft little project which involves all of them, but doesn't require them to all be in the same place at the same time.
A couple of years ago, I created an arrangement which involved the fusing together of two well-known Christmas songs.
I spent a significant amount of time on the backing track and it hardly ever gets aired, so I decided to get some use out of it!
I went round and recorded each vocalist individually (making sure I'd recorded Sophie before she went away),
mixed and sent out the master audio and invited them to film their appropriate lines in their natural habitats.
After a bit of amateur video editing, here is the result - hope it raises a smile.
