🚨 Amazon’s A10 algorithm is here—and it’s rewriting the rules for book discoverability.
Spent my weekend diving into this excellent breakdown from Shimmr AI and UK Amazon-expert Cam Lennon. Here are the need-to-know takeaways for every indie author and small publisher:
3 headline shifts
1. External traffic now matters—big time. A10 rewards books that pull readers in from email, socials, blogs, podcasts, you name it. Relying only on Amazon ads is officially old school.
2. Mobile first (70 %+ of orders). Your title’s first 70 characters, a crystal-clear thumbnail cover and A+ Content that loads at the top of mobile listings are the new conversion battleground.
3. Engagement & satisfaction outweigh launch spikes. A10 now tracks time on page, read-through, repeat purchases and return rates. Sustained reader love beats a one-week bestseller burst.
Quick wins you can tackle this week
1. Front-load your titles & subtitles with strong hooks/keywords, but keep your language natural
2. Audit Author Central. A complete AAC profile can equal +15-30 % sales lift.
3. Drive off-Amazon traffic. Add Amazon links to your newsletter, LinkedIn profile, social media posts, email signature, website, you name it. Each external click is now a ranking signal.
4. Tighten metadata. Review your title for 200-character limit, edit your descriptions to remove any keyword stuffing, and ensure all your listing elements are cohesive.
