To give the cast and crew a clear idea of what we were aiming for with each shot, Mark and Natalie storyboarded every scene to one degree or another.

Though more than a few panels were stick figures with arrows, a sizeable chunk of the film was down on paper before the camera even started rolling.

Looking back on these with the film finished, it’s cool to see how certain scenes developed over time!

Ahead of every Mimicry shoot, Kieran, Mark and Natalie did tests to figure out lighting setups and camera placements for each scene. Having this all planned out in advance saved us loads of time on shoot days, letting us focus on the actors and their performances and make sure we got exactly the shots we needed!

Couldn’t film Mimicry without our terrifying antagonists! The makeup tests in which Ash, Sonora and Isabella developed the look of the demonic Mimics and the resulting reference art really helped set the tone for the production. The end result was a mix of practical sfx makeup and digital effects.

Back to the beginning! At the for Mimicry the script came to life for the first time. There were no wrong answers as Isabella and Sonora began to explore exactly who their characters would be. From this point on, there would be no turning back...

The good egg who started it all

So there are a couple of major roles that we've not covered yet and those were the responsiblity of Natalie Parker, our writer and director. The creator of the spooky, Mimic-filled world we all worked to bring to the screen, she oversaw the entire production from start to finish - writing and revising the script, storyboarding scenes and calling the shots at every shoot.

A Sheffield native, Natalie is a writer, director and editor who has editing credits on such projects as 'Call Me Jim' (2018) and 'Ed Eats Food' (2017) and currently works in digital marketing at the University of Sheffield.

'Mimicry' marks Natalie's directorial debut and will be watchable at https://youtu.be/Imer9XE2e8k when it's released this Friday at 7pm on the Painted Mirror Films YouTube channel so DO NOT MISS IT - this is what our entire team's hard work over the past few year has been leading to!

Just when you thought we were out of good eggs!

That's right! Still got a couple of final faces to appreciate so say hello to Mark Howarth who was the film's producer and editor! He was responsible for everything from organising shoots and managing the production to making creepy VFX shots and, most importantly, putting the dang film together!

A Sheffield based writer, director and editor, Mark's previous work includes short films like 'Words of the Prophets' (2016) and 'Tom Nacian' (2017). Also as the director of Painted Mirror Films, he plays key roles on many of the company's projects.
