As Valencia in Spain experienced horrific flooding killing more than 200 people, members of Sheffield Extinction Rebellion gathered outside the office of AON on Napier Street. Climate scientist Bill McGuire explained on Twitter “ What's happening in Valencia is awful. But we are only seeing this because it is happening in a white, developed, nation, at the heart of Europe. The truth is that the supercharging of extreme weather means this sort of catastrophe is happening somewhere almost every day.”...

A small but significant group of environmental activists gathered in Norfolk Park on Saturday. Friday's important Defend Our Juries protest outside Southwark Crown Court calling for political prisoners to be released from jail got little press coverage. It is shameful that the media does not cover things like this, which is why this blog was set up in the first place. 320 people occupied the road outside Southwark Crown Court for 90 minutes, including a strong contingent from Sheffield, to protest the ongoing assault on democratic civil rights....

A letter to the Sheffield Star and Sheffield Telegraph Dear Editor Yesterday I went to see the film Shanshula which Sheffield Palestinian Musheir El-Farra produced, at the Broomhall Centre. The film gives a voice to the fishermen and fisherwomen of Gaza. The film begins before the horrors of October 7th.
