Sheffield Folk part 3 - Meet Alex at La Biblioteka. I first met Alex back in 2018 and loved his style on independent books and magazines.

Fast forward 6 years and here he is in his 3rd home but look out as he moves later in the Summer to the new Leah’s Yard.

The menswear fashion brand Yards Store has opened a second location in Sheffield this weekend and is set to bring a buzz to the area with its independent vibe. Championing outdoor and heritage brands such as And Wander, Goldwin and Gramicci, they are experts at offering innovative shopping experiences and show a good commitment to men's style without compromising on quality.

Opening their original store in Manchester back in 2019, they offered a site where men could focus on cool brands and a website to go with it.

Located on Pinstone Street and part of Heart of the City – the high-profile city centre development scheme led by Sheffield City Council and the developer Queensberry shows several new businesses open in that area.

Sheffield has always had independents that focus on good quality clothing for men with the likes of Arnold &Co on Ecclesall Road which has always specialised in British manufacturing by supplying Forge Denim that is crafted here in the city.

It has never been more exciting when shopping for men's clothes in the city and a quick look at the history of Yards Store shows the lifestyle retailer has grown by curating a good collection to satisfy the buyer. Having a large selection of footwear and choosing brands like Clarks Originals, New Balance and Red Wing means products being bought here are designed to last.

When you look across the city, you can see a good range of specialist vintage menswear independent shops like Jo Jo's General Store that concentrates on vintage mountaineering and rare authentic military workwear. Yards Store will add depth to the independent scene and complement what we already have in Sheffield.

Check out the new store on Pinstone Street and follow their socials to find out more about the ranges of menswear and footwear they sell.

Doors are open to the new Yards Store that have opened in Sheffield. Check them out and show some support 🙌🙌

Farewell Sharrow Vale Road: The Big Relocation Sale
Saturday 30th March

After 14 fantastic years the McKee Gallery on Sharrow Vale Road will be moving to a new location at Leah’s Yard in the city centre. To celebrate this, the gallery will be holding a special relocation sale on its last day open – Saturday 30th March.

Over the years the gallery has displayed many different McKee exhibitions and launched a plethora of collections, products, and prints. It’s unsurprising that, after 14 years, we have gathered quite a stock! This means that there will be a unique opportunity to own some rare one-off products from the archives as well as discounted framed and unframed works.

Items on offer will include (but are not limited to): T-Shirts, Collaborations with Paul Smith, Classic McKee Mugs, Limited Edition Prints, Signed Books, and projects that never saw the light of day.
We will also be auctioning off the famous ‘Frank’ shop sign which has been our gallery’s mascot since opening day! We will be announcing full details of this as well as a rundown of everything that will be available on the day though our social media channels over the next few weeks.

Please be aware that all items will only be available in the store (not online) on the 30th March during our opening hours of 10am to 5pm. No items can be reserved and we will be operating a first come first served basis.

I absolutely loved the Phlegm exhibtion but it did take me back to 2020 and I left feeling quite emotional. We all had to deal with the pandemic in our own way, and what makes this exhibtion special is an insight into a well loved artist’s life at that time.

On now until the beginning of July 2024 at the Millenium Galleries. Highly recommend

Who can remember the Steve Mqueen donut? Well it’s back this Wednesday! Happy 10 years to a fab team 🙌🙌

TEN years of Steam Yard; we don’t often show our faces on here too much. (Unless we recycle this one photo by our friend) Let’s be fair donuts and coffee is much more fun.

Today marks our 10th Birthday (what?!) and we wanted to take the opportunity to thank our friends, family, incredible staff (past and present), our suppliers, bakers and makers and of course YOU! The love and support we have seen from the first morning we opened right through to the various closures (thanks Covid!) constantly reminds us why we do it. The community spirit here in Sheffield, we couldn’t or wouldn’t be doing anything else or differently regardless of the ongoing pressures right now.

We are 2 best friends for much longer than coffee shop owners, we won’t let you to just how long then you’ll realise just how old we are. We opened Steam Yard as a little escape from the day to day, a place to hang out and share a coffee and donut. We took a chance, a business loan and with a lot of help; a second hand espresso machine, couple of bags of coffee and a tray of donuts and we opened. We didn’t have enough chairs! But you lot showed up, and kept coming back! (Thank you) Fast forward now 10 years a lot has changed but you our lovely customers are the constant. Growing the cafe space, knocking down walls and restoring 100 yr untouched parts of our building, launching a cold brew, the UKs first bean to bar ice cream and various collaborations with other Sheffield businesses, taking on the next door shop from our friend Rich and opening a training lab and space for ideas and developments, pushing sustainability and removing single use plastic, bringing in our pals Dept Two into the Yard and much more.

Opening our little sister and cookie popup shop with Doughboy.

We are permanently excited about this business, we have so many idea and plans for what we could, can and hopefully will do. We love our little home and we want this shop to be the best it can be reaching as many of you as possible, a warm welcome, great hospitality, good brews and a bakery counter of dreams all with a brilliant soundtrack. That’s us!

Thank you, thank you, thank you 💛💛💛

🙌 We're delighted to announce that at last night's Yorkshire Post Tourism Awards we won both the Tourism Attraction of the Year and Culture Award!

We were up against some strong competition for both prestigious awards, which honour the best attractions in the region. Congratulations to everyone who was nominated, and to all of the other winners.

So incredibly proud to announce my support acts for the November Tour.
Main support will be Ellysse Mason and Maddox Jones and will be opening.
I’ve pretty much built my whole fan base from being the support act for people so I know how tough it can be playing to a new audience so please try and get there early to see these talented humans. It’s a real honour to have them on tour with me. Birmingham has just sold out and London had so many entries that we’ve upgraded the venue to XOYO and that has now sold out (more info coming on that show very soon and dw Patreon I’m working on it) Every other show is on low tickets so don’t hang about. 😆 a caption...

Pete is moving his gallery to the city centre! How exciting. Have a read below....

Pete is opening a new gallery!

Pete has some exciting news to share with you. Next year he will be moving the McKee gallery to the new Leah’s Yard development in Sheffield City centre. Pete is the first tenant to be announced for this grade II listed development in the Heart of the city.

"The development team has taken great pains to retain as much of the heritage of the building as possible and it looks stunning. I’m incredibly proud of the Sheffield heritage my family, and many others over the generations, have been a part of. So, to be able to place my gallery where once the Artisans of Sheffield produced their wares was an opportunity I couldn’t resist.

“I believe in Sheffield and its ability to adapt and thrive and the town centre is currently going through a metamorphosis. Soon, it will be free of the cocoon of scaffolding and building sites and will be able to open its wings once more. But it won’t shine like our famous steel if we don’t support it. That’s why I wanted to move to the city centre to help be a part of our beautiful city’s new beginning – where we forge our own future and don’t look to be a poor copy of our neighbours up the M1 and over the Snake.

"I’ve been very proud to have been present for Sharrow Vale Rd’s growth into one of Sheffield’s independent shopping districts. Over the 13 years I’ve been there I’ve seen the street blossom into a bustling network of independent shops, cafés, restaurants, bars, and food outlets.
However, now I believe it’s time to move on and embrace a new beginning in one of Sheffield’s historical jewels – Leah’s Yard.” - Pete McKee
Leah’s Yard, which is currently undergoing the final stages of its renovation, breathing life back into its patchwork of buildings, is gearing up for opening in summer 2024. We will have further news on opening dates in the new year.
