Amazing scoreline!

Goldsborough 9 - 9 Thornton Dale Reserves.

Yes you read that right, you aren't still drunk from last night (well, you might be). A bizarre scoreline to round off the league campaign, in what was Goldsborough's fifth game in seven days. Boss Andrew Hardy picked a squad to play, but it was agreed to draw positions out of a hat with it being the last league game and day after a cup final.

โšฝ 1-0 - Ry Roe's goal kick finds Pete Diaz-Thomson, and he does well to play Si Taylor in who lobs the keeper.
โšฝ 1-1 - A cross from the left is flicked to the back post, and the striker's hit goes through Roe's hands.
โšฝ 2-1 - Another Roe goal kick is flicked on, and Taylor's first time effort finds the top corner.
โšฝ 3-1 - Karl Hewison plays a ball forward which Nath Smurthwaite challenges for. He reacts to the second ball and as the keeper comes out heads over him.
โšฝ 4-1 - Roe catches a corner and plays forward to Diaz-Thomson. He flicks on for Taylor who un-selfishley lays off for George Sault who fires home off the post.

H/T

โšฝ 4-2 - A long ball beats the defence, and the winger reads it well and lifts the ball into the net.
โšฝ 4-3 - A ball is cut back from the right, and the midfielder runs on to it and finishes first time.
โšฝ 4-4 - Good pace shown by the left winger, who gets to the byeline and drills across only for the unfortunate Smurthwaite to put into his own net.
โšฝ 4-5 - Good play through the middle and out to the left where the winger shows great pace again, and he centres for the forward to tap home.
โšฝ 5-5 - Good play from Phil Spencer gets Taylor on the ball, and he finds Watson running in who finishes first time.
โšฝ 6-5 - A long ball beats the defence, and Spencer breaks the offside trap and calmly rolls into far corner.
โšฝ 7-5 - A poor kick from the keeper after the defence overplays lands at Taylor's feet, and he lifts it over and into an empty net to complete his hat-trick.
โšฝ 7-6 - A ball all over is met by the forward, whose looping header hits the bar and drops in.
โšฝ 7-7 - A corner is sent over and flicked to the back post, and the winger takes a touch before firing home.
โšฝ 7-8 - Some sloppy play and poor challenges allow the forward to break into the box and finish.
โšฝ 8-8 - A nice through ball from Dom Ingham sets Damon Craig away, and he lifts over the keeper and in.
โšฝ 8-9 - A long range effort is tipped on to the post by Roe who injures himself in the process, but the rebound falls nicely for the forward to finish from two yards out.
โšฝ 9-9 - Rob Ingham's ball down the right finds Taylor, who lays it back for Spencer. His cross is inch perfect for Watson who heads into the far corner.

It's not often a team will score nine goals and not win a game. Well played Dale who never gave up and battled to draw level and take the lead twice.

Panasonic Cup Final
Goldsborough 1 - 2 Ayton

In their second cup final in five days, Goldsbrough played Ayton at Pickering Town FC. Boss Andrew Hardy made five changes to the side that beat Gillamoor on Wednesday, with Aiden Duell and Carl Harris returning in defence; Ben Duell in midfield; Dom Ingham in the number 10 role; and captain Ben Watson was back up front.

It was an even start to the game, with neither side putting together much possession. Ayton shaded proceedings but Ingham and Watson both made bright starts. With ten minutes gone and the first real chance of the game Ayton took the lead.

โšฝ The Ayton winger got to the byeline, and his cross was headed towards the back post where the opposite winger tucked in and nodded home. 1-0 Ayton.

Goldsborough couldn't quite get their game going, and Ayton were always a threat trying to break the offside trap. Ingham continued his bright start and Si Taylor started to get into the game. It was a combination between the two that brought about the equaliser.

โšฝ A quick break got Goldsborough up the pitch. The ball made its way to Taylor, and his cross found Ingham who's brilliantly glanced header found the far corner. Ayton 1 - 1 Goldsborough.

Ayton were still looking the better team, and kept getting the ball forward quickly. Pete Diaz-Thomson made a good save high to his right after a long throw into the box was allowed to bounce and the forward flicked a header goalwards. At the other end captain Watson hit a stinging volley from just outside the area straight down the keepers throat, as Goldsborough kept trying but struggled to find their rythm.

H/T.

Diaz-Thomson was called into action early in the half, standing tall and blocking with the forward through on goal. But Goldsborough made a better start to the half, closing down well and looking to move the ball quicker. Ayton should have increased their lead following a goalmouth scramble, the ball somehow not going in despite the forward having an open goal from two yards out.

Goldsborough eventually got into their stride and began to cause some real problems for the Ayton defence. Watson was played through on goal brilliantly by Taylor, but as the keeper advanced his lifted effort dropped just wide of the post. Next it was Ry Roe, who got across his man and sent a header goalwards only to see it hit the post after a storming run and cross from Ingham. It was Ingham again who then created a chance for himself, showing excellent close control to dance between three Ayton defenders and into the box, only to put his near-post effort wide. It was beginning to feel like the next goal could win it, and unfortunately it was Ayton who got it.

โšฝ The ball was whipped in from the left, and the forward got a toe to it and into the far corner. Despite calls for offisde the goal stood. Goldsborough 1-2 Ayton.

Goldsborough tried to desperately to find a late equaliser, but the Ayton subs managed the game and kept the ball in the corners as much as possible. Diaz-Thomson stood tall again to block and push away the rebound with the forward through. The game fizzled out and despite being the better side in the second half Goldsborough came away second best. Congratulations to Ayton on the win, but the lads need to take the positives of reaching two cup finals and giving themselves every chance in both.
