Project Ed’s Zed | Stage 3 Interior Assembly

It’s miserable and cold here in the UK, so what better way to spend a Saturday afternoon than in a warm garage with some music to work on the Z3!

You may have missed, but I’ve been restoring this 1997 BMW Z3 Roadster with only 72k miles on the clock.

Purchased in Aug 2024, this is my first ever Z3!

Work commenced in October 2024 - a full strip out of the interior, both driver and passenger seats removed, frame bushings replaced, fully cleaned runners and re-greased threads. The leather of the seats restored with ‘BMW Tanin Red’ dye and the drivers seat rip is being replaced next week.

Carpets Out - All carpets removed and 90 degree deep cleaned with hot shampoo and extract. Honestly, the years of filth caught in the tank was disgusting! 5 passes!

Wiring - Full continuity check of all systems.

Removed some old footwell ‘neon lights’ (fitted in the mid-2000s), repaired butchered stereo harness, and found a bad earth from the handbrake switch wire! Also traced antenna wire and checked that all speakers working. Nice!

Replaced hood hydraulic damper. Cleaned Chassis.

So far so good, next to replace is the centre console, rear box, steering wheel, and to fit throughout the interior newer foam upgraded door card clips.

Jaguar XK150 | 60-year vacation returns home.

The story of ‘Carmen’ the Jaguar XK150 3.4-Litre 'S' Roadster by Edward Payne.

A Jaguar XK150 holding the title of the greatest Jaguar sports car - until the E-Type arrived. Absolutely without parallel, gracing us with her incredible style, terrific heritage and superb performance to match – even by today’s standards.

British engineering in a post-war period at its best.

The last of the legendary range of XK sports cars, the XK150 remained true and on formula for which Jaguar built a dynasty.

The 3.4-litre engine with triple-carb head provides ample power to weight, effectively complimenting the art deco style bodywork.

A character comfortable in fulfilling a role of grand tourer - perfect for long distance driving with panache.

Carmen - simply put, is a remarkable Jaguar that began life on the 8th of July 1958 finished in Carmen Red (hence her name). Coupled with red leather, the finest walnut trim and black soft top roof, her Heritage Certificate confirms she was a left-hand drive manual car that had been built for the US, leaving her assembly home in Jaguar country - setting out to sea only to arrive at a bright and bustling ‘Jaguar Cars’ showroom in New York City in 1959. A life lived - its radio sounding the all-new words of Frank Sinatra and Elvis Presley throughout her stay.

Carmen returned home to the UK in 2015, sun-bleached, covered in rust and showing battle scars. For fifty years, Carmen had traveled most states in North America and even as far as Chicago and Oklahoma. The spirit of her dedication - proven in her build quality, became a car only to be born-again.

The next chapter of her long life.
Carmen was purchased as a restoration, with a highly professional team being assigned to bring her back to her former self.

Over 2,800 hours were invested in engineering and quality workmanship from a number of private company’s to bring Carmen back.

An incredibly well detailed Nut and Bolt restoration by the very best to create this superb example. And, after all this time, she is still boasting matching numbers.

Carmen is now valued at £220,000 and resides in Hertfordshire UK.
