Obasanjo Arrives Akwa Ibom Tuesday, Inaugurates 23.4km Dual Road

All is finally set for the Commissioning of the 23.4km Eket Etinan Road, which was constructed by Governor Udom Emmanuel.

The inauguration of the road is scheduled to take place on Tuesday, 2nd May 2023, and will be graced by the former President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, as the special guest of honor.

A trip to the Eket Etinan dual carriageway shows that preparation for the commissioning of the road is in top gear as things are already in place to ensure a successful inauguration ceremony on Tuesday 2 May.

The special assistant to the Governor on research and documentation Mr Essien Ndueso who led a team of journalists on a visit to the new road, said everything is in place for the commissioning of the Eket - Etinan dual carriageway constructed by Governor Udom Emmanuel’s administration and handled by Chinese firm, CCECC.

He said the new road is the fulfillment of Governor Emmanuel’s promise to ensure a dual carriageway from the state capital to the Atlantic Ocean, adding that the new road is a continuation of the 20km Uyo- Etinan Road that is almost ready for inauguration.

Mr Ndueso said before the construction of the Eket - Etinan Road motorists were previously compelled to pass through a long and arduous route before reaching Uyo. Many had to go through Ikot Ubo in Nsit Ubium, down to Ibesikpo Asutan LGA, or even pass through interior villages in Nsit Ubium and Nsit Ibom before reaching their destination.

On his part the construction project manager Engr Samuel Ukata said the road was executed to specifications to stand a test of time.

The Eket - Etinan Highway traversing Eket, Nsit Ubium, Nsit Ibom, and Etinan, which will be commissioned tomorrow by Former Nigerian president Chief Olusegun Obasanjo is designed with road furniture like side drainage, pedestrian walkway, traffic markings with pavement and center lines.

Ibadan Residents In Shock After Discovering Female Hairdresser Is A Man

A female hairdresser, simply identified as Ire has reportedly been exposed for being a man whose real name is Fahad.

According to reports, Fahad had been working at a hair salon in Mokola, Ibadan, Oyo State, for five months. However, luck was said to have run out on him (Fahad) when his old friend visited the salon and identified 'her' as a man.

The revelation came as a shock to staff and customers of the salon and Fahad was asked to disrobe to confirm what his friend had said.

Obasanjo to Commission 23.4km Eket-Etinan Road Constructed by Gov Emmanuel of Akwa Ibom

Chief Olusegun Obasanjo will this week cut the tape to inaugurate the 23.4km Eket - Etinan Road Project that links Etinan, Nsit Ibom, Nsit Ubium with Eket LGAs.

It is the second longest constructed dual carriage road in Akwa Ibom State

It comes with three new bridges measuring 199m

Also on this road is a 4.11km Outfall Drain

Carriageway Width of 8m each

Provides easier access to the State College of Education, Afaha Nsit and connects with the 20km Uyo - Etinan Road

Obasanjo is commissioning the third major project in the State under Governor Udom Emmanuel. He earlier commissioned the 1km flyover in Ikot Oku Ikono and the 29km Etinan - Ndon Eyo Road.

Tinubu Group Backs Orji Kalu for 10th Senate President.

A support group of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Volunteers Group (AVG), has backed the former governor of Abia State, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu to become the next Senate President of the 10th National Assembly.

The Cross River State Coordinator of the group, Hon. George Ichichere Sunday, in a statement signed on Sunday evening in Calabar and made available to newsmen, stated that Kalu is the most qualified among other contenders.

He noted that Kalu, who is the incumbent Senate Chief Whip, apart from being a ranking senator and a principal officer in the Red Chamber, is the most fully prepared for the task ahead, adding that “we need a Senate President that understands the country; a detribalised Nigerian with the charisma and capacity to complement Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Kassim Shettima, and that man is Distinguished Senator Orji Uzor Kalu.”

“Kalu is a respected Igbo leader whose emergence will silence agitations by the South Easterners of being marginalised by the APC.

“Senator Orji Kalu is experienced when compared with other members from other geo-political zones and he has built bridges across the country.

Peter Obi, Fayemi To Become Visiting Lecturers At Western
Delta University
Peter Obi, Presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP)
in the just concluded general elections and Kayode
Fayemi, immediate past governor of Ekiti State have both
agreed to become visiting lecturers at the Western Delta
University(WDU), Oghara, Delta State.
They both made the commitment at the 15th Founders’
Day lecture of the university at the weekend.
Fayemi, who delivered the lecture at the well-attended
event with the title “Sub-National Governance, the Ekiti
State Example" promised to set up the School of Policy
Implementation in the institution.
He also promised to become the first lecturer once the
school is completed.
The visitor to the University, Chief James Onanefe Ibori,
former Delta state governor appealed to Obi whom he
described as an experienced leader who has greatly
contributed to nation building to join Fayemi as a lecturer
upon the completion of the policy school. Obi agreed to
help set it up and join as a visiting professor.
In his speech, Fayemi who cited personal examples of
what transpired during his tenure as Ekiti State governor,
urged political office holders to ensure balancing when
making appointments and avoid the pitfalls of selecting
those who will end up as liabilities to the government.
His words "One of the important challenges that every
governor will face early is that of making key
appointments. Apart from the challenges of ethnic and
religious balancing, you also have political IOUs to settle".
"Every governor will have to strike the right balance
between appointing core politicians who have been
involved in the long and tortuous political struggle like
mine that brought the governor to office and appointing
technocrats who will be required to undertake specific
assignments for the smooth running of the government".

Lawan, Akpabio Clash Over 10th Senate
Presidency
As the race for the leadership of the 10th
National Assembly heats up ahead of the
inauguration of the Assembly in June, the
aspiration of a former governor of Akwa Ibom
State, and ex Minister of Niger Delta, Senator
Godswill Akpabio, to emerge as the Senate
president might have been dashed, IgbereTV
has learned.
According to Leadership Newspaper, a
stumbling block to Akpabio’s aspiration stems
from opposition to his aspiration by a group of
senators led by the outgoing president of the
Senate, Senator Ahmad Lawan.
Already, according to a report, Lawan has
persuaded the president-elect, Asiwaju Bola
Ahmed Tinubu, to withdraw his initial support
for the former minority leader of the Senate.
Leadership learnt that Tinubu’s widely reported
support for the former minister of Niger Delta
Affairs was aborted at the end of his meeting
with Ahmad Lawan-led team of lawmakers.
Akpabio’s fate was sealed at a meeting of some
senators-elect and ranking senators held with
Tinubu in Abuja on Tuesday. Lawan, who spoke
on behalf of the group, pointedly told Tinubu
that his endorsement would not translate into
victory for Akpabio in the Senate.
It was gathered that the senators told Tinubu
and members of his inner circle, who were
present at the meeting, that Akpabio would be
difficult to market for the coveted seat in the
Senate.
An impeccable source at the meeting said that
in what appeared like a subtle threat, Lawan
told the President-elect that another senator,
who would be nominated by the aggrieved
senators, would trounce Akpabio in the election,
should he insist on his choice of the former
governor.
Lawan alleged that Akpabio was “bogged down
by credibility baggage, which disqualified him
from the contest.”
He explained to the president-elect the dangers
inherent in projecting Akpabio to the Senate for
election.
