In the comment section, a viewer once asked me when the statement should be printed and submitted for the UK student visa proof of funds if funds are put in on 22nd August.

Here is my reply: For a UK student visa application, the funds you need to show for maintenance must be held in your bank account for at least 28 consecutive days. The 28-day period starts from the day after the funds are deposited into your account.

If the funds were deposited on 22nd August, here’s how you should calculate the dates:

1. Start of the 28-day period: 23rd August
2. End of the 28-day period: 19th September

You can print the bank statement on 19th September or any date after that. However, keep in mind that the bank statement should be dated no more than 31 days before the date you submit your visa application. So, it's essential to apply for the visa within 31 days of the date on the bank statement to meet the visa requirements.

Therefore, the earliest you can submit your bank statement for your visa application is 19th September, and it must be printed within 31 days of your application submission.

A viewer once asked me in the comment section: Will I be asked for my accommodation contract at the port of entry? Even though I’ll be putting up with a friend?

Here was my reply: When you arrive at the UK port of entry, it's possible, but not guaranteed, that the immigration officer might ask about your accommodation arrangements. They typically ask questions to ensure that your plans in the UK are clear and that you have a legitimate place to stay.

If you're staying with a friend, you won't have a formal accommodation contract like you would if you were renting a place. However, having a letter from your friend confirming that you’ll be staying with them is a good idea. The letter should include:

1. Your friend's full name and address.
2. A statement confirming that you are welcome to stay with them during your time in the UK.
3. The duration of your stay.
4. Contact details in case the immigration officer needs to verify this information.

Additionally, if asked, your friend should be able to provide proof of their address, such as a recent utility bill or rental agreement.

While it's not common for immigration officers to demand this documentation, being prepared can help avoid any potential issues. They are more likely to focus on your visa, financial stability, and the purpose of your visit, but showing that you have a place to stay can be reassuring for them.

As an international student, can you get a UK driver's licence?

Yes, as an international student in the UK, you can apply for a UK driver’s licence. Here's how it works:

1. Driving with a Foreign Licence: If you have a valid licence from your home country, you can drive in the UK for up to 12 months from when you become a resident.

2. EU/EEA Licence: If your licence was issued in the EU or EEA, you can drive in the UK until you’re 70 years old or three years after becoming a UK resident, whichever is longer.

3. Non-EU/EEA Licence: If your licence is from a non-EU/EEA country, after 12 months of residency, you must apply for a UK provisional licence and pass both the theory and practical driving tests to obtain a full UK driver’s licence.

4. Provisional Licence: You can apply for a provisional licence when you are 17 or older. With this, you can practice driving on UK roads with a qualified instructor or someone over 21 who has held a full UK licence for at least three years.

5. Theory and Practical Tests: After receiving your provisional licence, you must pass the theory test, which covers road signs, traffic rules, and hazard perception, followed by the practical driving test.

The Immigration Health Surcharge (IHS) is calculated based on the length of your visa, not just the length of your course. For a two-year course in the UK, the visa is often issued for slightly longer than the course duration, which can include additional months before and after your course.

For a two-year course with an Immigration Health Surcharge (IHS) fee of £776 per year, here's the calculation:

Typical Visa Duration for a Two-Year Course
Course duration: 2 years.
Visa duration: Usually 2 years plus an additional 4 to 6 months (to cover time before the course starts and after it ends).

IHS Calculation
For 2 years of course duration:
£776 × 2 = £1,552.

For the additional 4 to 6 months (which typically extends the visa duration):
If the extra period is 6 months or less, Add £388 (half-year charge).
If the extra period is more than 6 months, Add £776 (full-year charge).

Total IHS Fee
If the visa duration is 2 years and up to 6 months:
£1,552 (for 2 years) + £388 (for the additional 4 to 6 months) = £1,940.

If the visa duration is 2 years and more than 6 months:
£1,552 (for 2 years) + £776 (for the additional period exceeding 6 months) = £2,328.

Summary:
£1,940 if your visa is for 2 years and up to 6 months.
£2,328 if your visa is for 2 years and more than 6 months.

The exact fee depends on the total visa duration, so check the exact duration stated on your CAS or visa application to determine the correct IHS payment.

A child born in the UK to an immigrant parent on a visa typically does not automatically acquire British citizenship or permanent residency. The child's immigration status usually depends on the parent's status.

Here's a breakdown:

1. Child's Visa Status: If a child is born in the UK to parents who are not British citizens or settled persons (i.e., do not have Indefinite Leave to Remain (ILR) or Settled Status), the child does not automatically receive a visa or British citizenship. Like their parents, the child would generally need to apply for a visa to stay legally in the UK.

2. Travel Considerations: If the child plans to travel outside the UK, they would need a visa or some form of entry clearance to return to the UK. Without a visa, the child could face difficulties re-entering the country after travel.

3. 7-Year Rule: The '7-year rule' is an immigration provision that allows a child who has lived continuously in the UK for at least seven years to apply for permission to stay in the UK. It's important to note that this is not an automatic grant of status; an application is still required.

4. Applying for Citizenship: If a child born in the UK lives there continuously for the first ten years of their life, they may apply for British citizenship under specific conditions. Alternatively, if the parents become settled (e.g., obtain ILR), the child may be eligible to register as a British citizen.

In conclusion, it's important to remember that a child born in the UK generally requires a visa to continue living in the country. This is also true for re-entry if the child travels outside the UK within the first seven years. The need for a visa or immigration status is not waived simply because the child was born in the UK.

Looking for accommodation in the UK? Let's make the search a breeze with these tips and tricks!

Start Early: Don't wait until the last minute! Start your search well in advance to give yourself plenty of time to explore options and secure your dream home.

Set Your Budget: Determine your budget and stick to it. When setting your budget, consider the rent and additional costs like utilities, council tax, and maintenance fees to honestly know what you can afford.

Location, Location, Location: To avoid inconveniences, prioritise locations that are convenient for your lifestyle, whether close to work, amenities, public transportation, or schools.

Use Multiple Platforms: Don't limit yourself to just one website or platform. Explore resources like rental websites (Rightmove, Zoopla, OnTheMarket, PrimeLocation, Gumtree, Spareroom, OpenRent and Rentify), social media groups (Facebook groups), local newspapers, and real estate agencies to maximise your options.

Be Flexible: Keep an open mind and be flexible with your preferences. You might find hidden gems or great deals in areas you have yet to consider.

Prepare Your Documents: Have all necessary documents ready, including Proof of Identity (e.g., passport or national identity card), Proof of Address (e.g., utility bill, bank statement, or official letter), Visa or Residence Permit (right to rent share code), Employment or Income Verification (e.g., employment contract, pay stubs, or bank statements), Previous Landlord References (if applicable), Credit Check Authorisation, Guarantor Information (if applicable), identification (passport or BRP card), references, and rental history (if applicable). This will streamline the application process and show landlords you're serious about renting.

Act Quickly: When you find a property you love, don't hesitate! Please act quickly and submit your application to increase your chances of securing the accommodation.

Be Professional: Treat every interaction with landlords or agents professionally and courteously. A good impression can make a big difference in the rental process.

Negotiate Smartly: Feel free to negotiate terms like rent price, lease duration, or included utilities. Please be respectful and reasonable in your negotiations.

Stay Persistent: The rental market can be competitive, so keep going if you face rejections or setbacks. Stay persistent, keep searching, and you'll find the perfect place to call home!

I hope this helps some out here secure their accommodation as soon as possible.
