Plymouth Basket Brigade Christmas Appeal
Every year, for the past twelve years, a small group of volunteers in Plymouth, have gathered together on 23rd December to pack and deliver “Christmas in a Box” to over 100 families in need across the city.
Families identified by local education welfare officers as deserving of special recognition for the work they’ve put in throughout the year in overcoming adversity and for the effort they’ve made in ensuring the safety, security and futures of our most vulnerable citizens, our children.
Families striving against the odds to do good. Whether two parent, single parent or extended families, all have suffered hardship one way or another from problems with health, housing, finances or employment to issues with domestic violence, racial or sexual abuse.
One way or another they’re hurting and this year with the knock-on effects of Coronavirus all the more so.
Coronavirus has had a knock-on effect on the volunteers too, because this year, the funds to help these families have dried up.
The volunteers rely on fundraising throughout the year at events and from local organisations and this year that’s been really tough and subsequently the Plymouth Basket Brigade won’t be able to deliver Christmas to as many families who need it unless…
You help.
It costs less than £40 to put together all the ingredients necessary to make a deserving family’s Christmas special, from fruit and veg to a turkey joint or chicken with all the trimmings, the Christmas pudding, sweets and mince pies to make it a day to remember. The volunteers even manage to put together special boxes for people with dietary needs.
You can help raise as many of those “£40s” as possible in three ways…
1- By sponsoring a box (or two), you can even include a special card if you wish, to let someone know you’re thinking of them this Christmas.
2- By taking part in the Plymouth Basket Brigade Advent Draw. Just £10 buys you a chance of winning one of 24 fabulous prizes on a daily b
