YOU CANNOT FIGHT WITH A FAMILY THAT IS BROKEN. BUT YOU CAN FIGHT TO BRING THEIR BROKEN PIECES BACK TOGETHER.
In as much as it might appear logical for the Zambian Government to repatriate the remains of His Late Excellency, from an Ubuntu perspective, this funeral is not about state protocol ,it is about a familyโs raw, personal pain. This loss cuts deeper for the Lungu family than it will ever cut for me or for you.
It is beyond 21 shots fired into the sky. It is beyond soldiers marching in perfect order. It is beyond dignitaries flying in to make speeches and leave.
These are ceremonies. They are protocol. They are for show. But when the drums fall silent, when the speeches end, and when the flags are folded, everyone will will return to their homes and the Lungu family will still be left with the weight of an empty chair at the table, an unfillable space in their hearts.
We, the onlookers, did not nurse him during his last days. We did not watch him fade. We do not know the storms the family endured.
Yes, we are a Christian nation. Yes, we are called to forgiveness. But before anything else we are human. Even Jesus, in His holiness, overturned tables in the temple when He saw injustice in Godโs house. Do not pretend that faith erases pain.
We are quick to throw stones at the sister who spoke out in court but do we know the depth of the wound that provoked her words?
To the Church in Zambia
When will you rise? Will you wait for the final verdict before offering counsel, compassion, and truth? We have looked to you for moral direction, but your silence is deafening.
To the Government of Zambia
Do you have a human face? How will history write about you 30 or 50 years from now? Will the pages read: โThe Maltreatment of the Lungu Family After His Deathโ?
You still have time to rewrite this chapter. Negotiate with the family. Show mercy. Show dignity. We need ECLโs remains in Zambia, yes but not at the expense of crushing a grieving familyโs spirit. Remember, there is a government greater than yours the government of Heaven ,where mercy and compassion rule above all.
To the people of Zambia
This is not a political scoreboard. This is not about winning or losing. No matter how patriotic we feel, this burial will never carry the same weight for us as it does for his family.
Even if he were buried in South Africa, their pain would still be unbearable. The answer is not force ,it is MERCY . It is PEACE. It is LOVE. It is UNDERSTANDING.
