This is the last in our series of recipes.

Our Toilet Freshening Bombs were the first product we ever made and sold.

These little fizzing beauties are a perfect way to freshen your toilet mid-clean.

You can also use them to:
- Clean tea stains from mugs
- Clean sinks (especially good for enamel)
- Freshen drains
- Clean extractor fan filters

Simply drop them into water and watch them fizz!

Ingredients for Toilet Freshening Bombs:

150g Bicarbonate of soda
100g Citric Acid
0.2g Lavender oil
0.1g Peppermint oil
0.1g Eucalyptus oil

Method:

You will need a spray bottle filled with water and an ice-cube tray.

Mix the Sodium Carbonate and citric acid inside a bowl and add essential oils gradually.
Using the spray bottle, mist the powders with water, mixing at all times until the mixture resembles damp sand.
You are looking for the mix to form in your hand.
Then you can fill the ice cube tray with the mixture, pressing firmly.
Immediately tip the tray over and allow the blocks to fall out and leave to dry.

Here is everything you need to get started.

Did you know that our toilet scrub is not just for the lav?

198g Bicarbonate of soda
110g Epsom salt
90g Citric acid
1g Grapefruit oil
1g Eucalyptus oil

We are sharing all of our eco-cleaning recipes with you.

We can no longer sell our products to you, but we don’t want you to stop using them in your homes.

Here is the recipe to make 400g of our Dishwasher Powder

Ingredients:

335g sodium bicarbonate
86g citric acid
9g BiDE concentrated washing up liquid ( you can find this recipe on our grid)
0.5g peppermint essential oil

The sum of the ingredients needed is greater than the completed 400g of finished product. This is because the reaction produces water vapour and carbon dioxide which evaporate into the air.

Mix all ingredients in a large container, adding a few drops of your favourite essential oils as needed.
Re-mix every hour until the consistency is evenly granular and dry.
Store in an airtight container.

All of the ingredients can be purchased from UK suppliers such as Soap Kitchen, Bayhouse or The Soapery.

Happy mixing!

TRANSPARENCY in our business

Though we are a for-profit organisation, we want to be as acountable as a charity.

We believe that transparency is the best way to earn trust and credibility.

Trust from you our incredible tribe, trust from our home manufacturers and trust from the businesses we win contracts with.

Challenging ourselves to be truly transparent also helps govern the decisions we make.

If we can’t hide anything then we should do nothing that we need to hide.

If there is anything you would like to know about Bide - just ask!

EMPOWERMENT for everyone that works with us.

Our system is built to empower anyone to get work.

By bringing work to their doorsteps and not requiring any previous experience, we remove the barriers that may have held them back.

But we are not empowering enough.

We have only deployed approximately 0.1% of the home manufacturers who have registered to work with us.

We have more supply of labour than demand.

Our goal is to grow Bide so that we can empower as many of these people as possible.

We need to:

Attract more customers
Win more contracts with Businesses
Get wider distribution in other stores

If you have any ideas how to support our ambition please get in touch.

Trees work together to ensure they all thrive.

They use their root system to share resources.

If a sapling is light deprived, then a more mature established tree will send it nutrients and sugar to help it grow taller.
They pool their resources and ensure a fair distribution of carbon through their network.

They use mycelium (mushroom threads) to connect their root system and in return for passing on these vital resources, allow the mushrooms to hold back some of the sugars for their own growth.

Imagine if we all acted like trees?

We would ensure that everyone has the resources and opportunities they need to thrive.

Communally we would all be healthier and stronger.

Who’s up for acting like a tree??

Bide needs its Tribe in order to thrive.

We need to get more people buying more of our eco cleaning products.

Can you help us?

- Can you tell your friends and family about us?

- Would you be comfortable talking to your employers about using our products in your place of work?

- Could you pop into your local refill store and ask if they would stock us?

- Did you know commenting, forwarding and interacting with our posts will help us reach more people?

We are determined to give Bide everything we’ve got. Will you join us?

We have now switched subscriptions back on.

Subscriptions are so important for our unique way of making our eco cleaning products.

They help us more accurately predict demand which means we can confirm work availability for our magnificent team of home manufacturers.

This is so vital as we are an essential top-up to their household incomes.

Subscriptions for bulk items mean we are sending less vehicles on the road and reducing packaging.

A huge win for our 🌎

Finally, subscriptions allow us to have a better view on the future of our small business.

BUT please only subscribe if you can afford to do so.

Subscriptions can be amended and cancelled at any time.

International Women’s Day should not focus on celebrating those high achieving women at the top of the food chain.

For whilst their accomplishments should be lauded, International Women’s Day should be about identifying how women and allies collectively can build equity so that all women have the chance to succeed.

Bide is designed to uplift those women who have been historically overlooked.

Bide thrives not because I am in the spotlight, as the founder. But because the women in our organisation have collectively embraced my mission to drive social equity and support the business through their passion, hard work and loyalty.

Our at-home work removes the barrier that has held them back from being active players in our economies.

Bide’s home manufacturing system empowers them to get work and it can often be the steppingstone for them seeking new employment elsewhere or starting their own business.

This International Women’s Day let’s focus on equity.

Look around at the women in your workplace, your community, your friendship circle, or family.

Identify those that need kindness and empowerment to give them a more equal chance to succeed.

Thank you to all the women that have helped Bide be who it is:

Anita, Laara, Klaudia, Rachel L, Jo B, Beatrice, Claire B, Claire M, Bonnie, Amber, Lynn C, Lynn S, Karen, Nikki, Kayleigh, Katie, Veronica, Tannaz, Walaa, Juliana, Sharon, Jo, Maria, Demelza, Tina, Stacy, Josie, Denise, Helen, Rachel, Kate, Asiya, Danielle, Nausheen, Julie, Alyia, Marina, Fay, Emmaleen and Gunta.

We are only using 0.5% of our available workforce.

Since our Dragons Den appearance, we have received over 5,000 applications to become part our home manufacturing network.

We cannot currently welcome them to into our Bide Tribe because we need to increase demand.

The greater demand for our eco products = the greater the number of home manufacturers we can on-board.

The biggest growth in demand comes from supplying our goods to businesses.

If you would like to help us get this incredible workforce into work more quickly, then please consider spreading the word. Reaching out to your networks, your employers, clients to see if we can supply them with our eco cleaning products can really help us.

FEATURED CHARITY: Breaking Barriers
People of refugee background are 4 times more likely to be unemployed.

Yet there is little support available to help build new lives after refugee status is granted.

That’s wrong.

And it’s the problem Breaking Barriers exists to solve.

Breaking Barriers exists so that every refugee can access meaningful employment and build a new life.

Like everyone, people of refugee background are determined to be financially stable and find purpose in their work.

Breaking Barriers welcomes refugees into work with one-to-one advice and guidance, education, and training. They believe in the power of responsible business to forge innovative employment solutions for people of refugee background, like their partnership with bide.

Since the charity was founded in 2015, Breaking Barriers have supported over 1500 people with employment advice and guidance. Of those, more than half found meaningful employment, education or volunteering opportunities.
