Lampeter is an extra special place. Went there as a mature student and it opened up a whole new world. The Archaeology department was amazing. Just missed Julian Thomas and Christopher Tilley, but Mike Shanks, Penny Dransart, Ros Coard, David Austin, Barry Burnham, Martin Bell, and others were all really great. Then there was the option to do other modules in the first year, which brought me within the orbit of the Classics department with Doug Lee, Tony Brothers, Ian Barton, and others. Epic time! Met some fantastic people there. Have been trying to track down my great friend Richard Davies who was studying Theology. Heather Thomas and myself are in touch. Same for lovely Joan of the History department. Leigh Soderland I have lost contact with. Anyway — great time at St David’s University College!

The reason I am excited about our recent survey in Pembrokeshire is the comparison of Housesteads Roman auxiliary fort on Hadrian’s Wall with the geophysical survey plot of my site. Note the two buildings centre left at Housesteads and the two at centre left on the Pembrokeshire site. Very interesting.

Got a cracking result from the recent geophysical survey in Pembrokeshire of what I believe is a Roman fort. Thanks to the team for this! I have put the dots in to highlight some of the features. Of particular interest is the apparent structure to the far left, which I believe is a commander’s house. The probable structure next to it is I think a headquarters building. Those below seem to suggest barrack-blocks. Very exciting! Next, we need to dig!
