NDV Podcast: Neurodiverse Voices

NDV Podcast: Neurodiverse Voices Voicing neurodivergent people and families. Raising awareness, fostering acceptance, celebrating difference. Welcome to the Neurodiverse Voices Podcast! My motto?

Founded by Andreia Santos Costa
Listen here: https://linktr.ee/neurodiversevoicespodcast My name is Andreia. I am the mother of a beautiful autistic daughter, something I am very proud of. She is my sunshine, giving me joy and happiness every day despite any challenges we face. But being her mother is not the only thing that defines me. During the past 12 months, both my personal and professional

lives have been generous with me, by giving me the opportunity to truly find myself. Four days a week I work for the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Oxford as a Project Manager for the NIHR Oxford Health Biomedical Research Centre with a focus on academic research to deliver innovation in mental, cognitive and brain health research. On Fridays, I am the Parents Ambassador at Oxford Creators, an alternative education provision for SEN children who are at risk of or excluded from schools. From an early age, I have been fascinated with radio and its magic and although my career took me through a different path, my dream lived until today. And here I am, releasing my own podcast while living my purpose of helping improving lives (even if indirectly). My aim is to be the voice of my daughter and other neurodiverse people, other parents and professionals through their own lived experiences. Bringing visibility to these super stars, who most of the times behind the scenes make a huge impact on neurodiverse lives. My goal is to increase neurodiversity awareness, but most importantly to promote acceptance by sharing ideas to redesign this world of ours that does not seem to accept difference. I have many, but I will leave you with this one:
"Alone we can do little, but together we can do so much"

This February will be special! 🩵
Simply because I have a truly special episode of the NDV Podcast to share with all of you!
An episode that will not be only about neurodivergence, but also about body focused repetitive behaviours (BFRBs).

Join me and Professor Clare Mackay, from the University of Oxford’s Department of Psychiatry who has dedicated her career to imaging Neuroscience and has recently opened up to the world on her urges to pull her hair.

Clare shared her lived experience with trichotillomania, how the handle The Trich Prof and the BFRBs research project came to life and we explored how much neurodivergence and BFRBs may be connected.

Tune in of Saturday, 1st February!

Tonight at 6:00 pm on ITV News Meridian, watch their news piece on SEND. My wonderful friend and fellow advocate Leandra from SENtipede has been interviewed and I have no doubt that she rocked it! 🥰
My heart is also warmed by seeing Dee from The Autism Champions, as there’s a lot that system can learn from her too!
Can’t wait for 6:00pm!

14/01/2025

SENtipede and Oxford Hub will be hosting their first Coffee morning of the year, for parents and carers of children with SEN, this Thursday 16th January at The Jungle, Templars Square Cowley from 9:30-11am.

We'll have Michele, a Neuroscientist, coming along to talk with us.
Please check out some of Michele's advice on 'Playroom Parenting' 👉🏼

We hope your festive period was restful and full of cheer🎄🥰

If, however, it wasn't, we hear you too.

Sometimes family life is difficult and doesn't always live up to the expectations we put on ourselves, especially for those with SEN children and/or children suffering with mental health struggles.

When the going gets too tough, and you've been battling alone for too long, where do you look for the right support for yourself when those children are teenagers or adults?

If this sounds like your struggle right now, please do get in touch to find out more about our support groups held in Kidlington - they are peer support groups, attended by parents just like you, and facilitated by a trained professional.

Please contact me, Rachel, using the details in the poster below, for further information on joining.

Look forward to speaking with you soon

Rachel xx

Are you ready for the first 2 episodes of season 3 of the NDV Podcast?

I am counting the days to share these two very unique stories with all of you:

🩵 Imogen Branwell, 16 years old, diagnosed autistic at the age of 14 with a journey full of struggles, but equally inspiring. Imogen is admirable for her determination, bravery and courage.

🩵 Clare Mackay, Professor of Imaging Neuroscience at the University of Oxford and the . Clare has lived experience of trichotilomania , a Body Focused Repetitive Behaviour (BFRB) and has recently started a study to better understand BFRBs, including the link with neurodivergence. Clare openly shared her own feelings of isolation, self-stigma and shame and how she has overcome them to get to the position of releasing a scientific study.

Two incredible guests, using their voice to raise awareness and increase understanding of neurodivergence.

Two incredible guests who are a true inspiration to me and I have no doubt that you will find them equally inspiring!

So save the dates and listen or watch on Spotify, Apple Podcasts and YouTube.
